she's pretty cute.. might have to see what this doctor who thing is all about..

I feel like this has been going on for longer than it takes to really transition from male to female. I hope it works, however, as Doctor Who was dying under Moffat and a full change is necessary if they want to regain the show's glory period.

As someone who likes dark gritty and realistic settings.....

I can't believe this show has such a HUGE following...it suspends my disbelief, some people even belittle you for disliking this show, and I can't for the life of me see the appeal, most of what I've seen has been cringe worthy and corny, personal opinion I suppose.

In all honesty, is this just a niche market for memory lane with people who enjoyed the old show?

To each his own, we all have our own tastes, this is seriously a legitimate question, what draws and keeps your attention on this show?

I suppose the fact it's a adventure show and every episode is different in some aspect can draw you in, that's a bit retro in spirit, I'm the kind of guy that hates most tv series as they tend to get campy to keep you interested such as agents of shield as a example, the only shows that draw me in are game of thrones, breaking bad, Punisher ect

Why do I watch? I watch as it's Sci-Fi and it's not Coronation Street or Love island.

Plus, once in a while, you get mind blowing episodes such as:
-The Pandorica Opens
-Others that I cannot recall the name of.

So there. Rasp.

One of the guys who helped create the series wanted to see this change happen back in the 80's; at that point, the series had been around for 20-something years. Hell, it was apparently even discussed as early as 1981, after Tom Baker left the role.

I'm going to give it a shot. The worst it can possibly do is get me to continue not watching the series; I dropped it shortly after Capaldi took the role (and not because of Capaldi).

People like it because it's the opposite of dark, gritty and "realistic"...most of the time. It's an optimistic, hopeful series that - at its best - showcases how good and brave people can be in desperate times. It stars a character who saves the day using a screwdriver, not a gun or a lightsaber.

At the same time, things can eschew towards "dark and gritty" when they dwell on the fact that The Doctor is a terrible person who directs their terribleness towards doing good. He's the sort of character that claims to hate taking life, but he'll use his companions as puppets to do the dirty work. When the series revival began in 2005, The Doctor was fresh out of ending a war that ravaged across space and time by - at the time - genociding two species...one of which was his own.

It's a series that is bright and fun on the surface, but things get a little darker once you dive in. Still, it's probably not quiet as "dark, gritty and realistic" as you'd like. It ain't for everyone.

Some of it was nostalgia back in 2005, but "nuWho" has very much become its own thing, despite belonging to the same series and maintaining continuity with the original run.

Although I haven't watched it in a few years, it's simply a fun show. It can be both lighthearted, sorrowful, and meaningful all within the span of 45 minutes. It takes itself seriously without taking itself too seriously.

It'll be weird to experience what the fangirls were crowing about during the David Tennant and Matt Smith runs. Jodie Whittaker isn't all that hard on the eyes.

I liked David Tenor the best. Looks like they are starting to give it more production value.

I used to love Who. It was my favorite show for awhile. Towards the end of Matt Smith s run it got stale. I didn't care for the last doctor. Watched like half a season with him before I called it quits. So I haven't watched really in years. I don't mind the doctor being a woman for a season or 2. But that trailer doesn't make me want to get back in.

A good spot would be with the first episode of the 2005 season. While it helps to have some knowledge of the series beforehand, it's a great point of entry. David Tennant's run is also a good place to start...but Christopher Eccleston was only in the role for one season, so you may as well start from the beginning.

If you want to jump ahead, Matt Smith's first episode is also a good place to start; it serves as a very soft reboot and while events from Tennant's run are referenced on multiple occasions, it otherwise stands on its own (more or less).

Basically, any time The Doctor regenerates is a decent point to jump on if you don't want to watch the whole thing (but some work better than others). Whittaker's run will be a good point to jump on, because it feels like it's going to be another very soft reboot like Matt Smith's intro was.

Thanks for that. I'll give the 2005 season a try.

Give it a few episodes, for sure. I like the first season quite a bit, but it really picks up in the second season when Tennant takes over. The first part of his run relies pretty heavily on Eccleston's season, though...so, yeah.

Eccleston is the least-appreciated Doctor out of the new ones and he's much better than he gets credit for.

Christopher Eccleston - I honestly think that his acting is simply awful. Terrible. (But not bad in Doctor Who). David Tennant (A very strong 'don't mess with me' Doctor) and Matt smith rocked.

IMO.

Watch from the beginning of the Eccleston season, first episode: Rose. That season does some fantastic world building of Russel Davies Whoverse without getting bogged down in storylines that don't go anywhere.

Can we have an Expanse/Dr Who cross over so Amos can beat the everliving shit out of Dr. Who characters?

Lol...I tried, but it was pretty bad. In fact, the only upside to watching that first episode was that Rose looked like my favorite british porn actress Jamie Brooks.
