Leisure Suit Larry Kickstarter Meets Funding Goal

The remake of Leisure Suit Larry In the Land of the Lounge Lizards has met and surpassed its funding goal on Kickstarter, with six days to spare.

It was a slow achievement. In my opinion, they didn't really think our their reward tier very well, and I guess remaking LSL for the third time wasn't super appealing (or the fanbase is limited?).

Still, hopefully this will push them to making a new entry.

It's more that it's a remake of a remake that is the problem, hard to get people excited about that even if you're changing things. Sadly that is apparently not their fault, its a restriction of their licensing agreement, they need to show they can do a good job before they can do anything else.

The fanbase isn't limited, not saying its huge but they made a lot of them and they're all fun, no matter what some people claim.

Had to fix that for ya. Remember the LSL series had 2 horrible console entries that tainted an entire generation with stigma they have to overcome.

I still think that, for adventure games to really come back, an adventure game needs to come out that reintroduces what made adventure games fun to begin with instead of trying to "evolve" them into something people don't necessarily want and don't have fond memories for.

I think this game might do that. But, then, I never really played any LLL games...

Fez kind of did that but it's a platformer.

Glad to see it got funded. It seems, based on the sort of low turnout that either kickstarter fatigue has set in or there aren't as many LSL fans as Al expected.

It's been a while since I heard his name in gaming circles (outside of retrospectives). Maybe he just doesn't have the name recognition right now.

With Shadowrun's success, I wouldn't say fatigue set in. At least not yet.

I hope they hit the 1.75 million and add in physical adepts. That would rock. I already tapped myself out at the $125 level so it's up to others now!

I think this much projected kickstarter fatigue will prove to be a myth. Just some games will be funded and others won't. I mean, I'm 30 years old and a big Sierra fan and I have never played LLL. To some degree it's before my time. So just who would be donating to this?

Is 550 grand a small amount of money for a kickstarter? Hell I am shocked they got fronted that kind of money to make another in that series. Shocked..

People older than you are probably the backers. Oh, to be 30 and young again... dare to dream.

Re: kickstarter fatigue. I have just about blown my entire gaming budget on Kickstarter this year. It doesn't matter if someone wants to fund a brand new Balder's Gate, I wouldn't be able to back it out of lack of desire to pull the funds from one of my other hobbies. And I would nearly kill for a new BG game. I might for a new Star Control... I mean kill someone, not fund; I'm tapped out

Others have only so much money that a few games even at the lowest levels taps out their disposable income.

That, besides all the "That game developer who once made those great games is starting a kickstarter! Go contribute to Space Quest!" Is going to start sounding blah, like listening to the same song on repeat for 10 days straight. I know it's already worn off me, I couldn't even be bothered to look at the LLL kickstarter. Though I do enjoy tracking the progress of those I've funded (the pebble e-ink watch is going to be amazing and is the new record holder for largest dollars on kickstarter).

EDIT: Shadowrun hit the $1.75m mark; Physical Adapts for everyone!

Never be shocked when a price is put on quality.
