Zombieland 2 Is Happening In 2019 With Original Cast And Director

GameSpot has the story.

Quote:
Update: After being teased by the writers, the sequel is now official. According to Variety, Emma Stone, Woody Harrelson, Jesse Eisenberg, and Abigail Breslin are all returning for the film, along with director Ruben Fleischer. Production is expected to begin in January 2019, with an October 2019 release in the works. The original story follows.

The cult classic Zombieland, which came out in 2009, may be getting a sequel. Writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick--who wrote the original--told Vulture that a sequel with the original cast might be in theaters by October 2019 to celebrate the original's 10-year anniversary.

"We're going on the tenth anniversary of Zombieland, Wernick said. "Zombieland came out October of 2009. We don't know what you get someone for their tenth anniversary, but it may be a Zombieland 2...with the original cast, by the way."

I like the first one. But it's to late for this. 5-7 years ago sure. A decade later I am not sure I care that much anymore. Squels a decade later are rarely good.

<cough>Incredibles 2<cough>

I completely don't get the idea of a time limit on a sequel. Either the sequel is good or it's not. Who care's how long ago the original was made?

I have to point out that there were 7 years between Alien and Aliens. Ditto for Terminator 2. Zombieland 2 will be about 10 years.

Now if you want to argue that sequels just suck in general, you've got a better point.

Without Bill Murray it won't be the same.

To me the things that really made Zombieland a real standout were the first 15 minutes where he goes over the rules (with the nicely filmed examples) and how he survived and the Bill Murray segway.

Woody Harrelson arguably made his real comeback with the movie so having Tallahassee might be enough to carry the movie but I have my doubts.

See....they need to have a limited time cooperation with norman reedus, that would make me laugh my ass off, maybe Tallahassee and norman can have a bit of a tiff, and do a zombie slaying challenge, that'd make up for any lack of bill murray, though I'd rather have both!

Bill Murray's cameo was great, but not having him specifically won't break a sequel.

The biggest mistake they made with the first was dropping the visual style they established with the rules after the first 15 minutes. I wish they would have been clever enough to keep that up throughout the entire movie.

The first movie was fun (despite the overly sassy girls) but it was a short movie and I think it was for a reason. This isn't a movie or universe that cries out for more. I hope I'm wrong but I don't expect much.

Animated, so the characters do not age. At worst, they sound slightly off compared to the original.

The characters have physically aged 10 years. This may turn off some people, particularly those who liked Woody Harrelson, as he definitely hasn't aged as well as some of the younger cast.
