Report: Blizzard's Unannounced First-Person Game Will Have Vehicles

PCGamesN has the story.

Quote:
In November last year, job ads on the Blizzard website hinted that big blue were working on a new first-person game. Another pair of job ads now suggest this game will have vehicles.

Blizzard are on the hunt for two new software engineers, one of which will “help create vehicles” in “a robust first-person engine.” There’s not much to say about the other vacancy, which looks like a fairly standard ad for a gameplay engineer. The ideal candidate has experience in at least one of “combat, multiplayer, uiser interface or other game systems, from AI and pathing to animation.”

It's also worth noting that both candidates “must be comfortable working within and adding to an established code framework,” which suggests much of the game’s tech already exists. Since the project started hiring a year ago, this could just mean they’ve built a codebase in that time.

Could they just be adding vehicles to overwatch?

It will be a PUBG game, it's the next craze. Goodbye MOBAs, hello PUBGs.

Ugh. I hope not.

Blizzard has a pretty solid track record*, so I trust they'll come up with something at least half-way decent. Either way, they need to bring something to the table because their cash cow (WoW) is unlikely to stay on top for too much longer. As far as I understand, the next xpac is the last.

*Diablo 3 sucked until the Reaper of Souls pre-patch, and I'm not a MOBA fan, so I never really played HoTS.

The meme genre. I wouldn't even bother ripping off Day Z/PUBG

Meh. We got three new games from them over the course of three years, along with four expansion packs for existing games within the same span of time.

Blizzard has been fairly busy, as of late.

Hard at work, yet not a single game I currently want to play.

Burned out on WoW years ago.
Nothing left to accomplish in D3.
Not a RTS fan.
Not a FPS fan, single or multi.
Burned out on RNGStone.
Can't stand MOBAs.

They have some great titles. Just nothing for me right now.

Blizzard is pretty good about updating games once the groundwork is done, it's getting there that takes a long time. As for Overwatch it was built from the canceled Titan MMO that had been in development since 2007. Do I want them to hurry up? Well, yes and no. Often faster development means sloppier and lazier development, so I'd rather wait, just like I did back in the day when Rare was making games for Nintendo. So if they were able to keep the quality but speed up the development cycle I'd be all for it, but that's not likely to happen so I'll wait patiently and take jabs at them when they start developing a game.

Hmm, maybe this will be a repurposed StarCraft: Ghost?

I'll wait until they make an actual announcement about a new product. Until then it's just potentially another Titan.
