Pacific Rim - Official Trailer

Quote:
From acclaimed filmmaker Guillermo del Toro comes "Warner Bros. Pictures and Legendary Pictures' Pacific Rim."

When legions of monstrous creatures, known as Kaiju, started rising from the sea, a war began that would take millions of lives and consume humanity's resources for years on end. To combat the giant Kaiju, a special type of weapon was devised: massive robots, called Jaegers, which are controlled simultaneously by two pilots whose minds are locked in a neural bridge. But even the Jaegers are proving nearly defenseless in the face of the relentless Kaiju. On the verge of defeat, the forces defending mankind have no choice but to turn to two unlikely heroes—a washed up former pilot (Charlie Hunnam) and an untested trainee (Rinko Kikuchi)—who are teamed to drive a legendary but seemingly obsolete Jaeger from the past. Together, they stand as mankind's last hope against the mounting apocalypse.

So it's Neon Genesis Evangelion? I mean, in the trailer they even called it the "EVA Project" with the same pronunciation.

Thought so myself. Monsters appear, humans develop massive robots to fight them since conventional weapons are useless. There's even synchronization rate for the pilots.

If a giant robot hitting one of these "monsters" would damage it so would simple kinect weapons dropped from space. However it looks like it might be fun enough to watch.

Xenogears fighting Kaiju in the Neo-Geo game setting of King of the Monsters directed by the creator of Pan's Labyrinth with a fat CGI budget. I'm there.

I never heard "EVA project" in this trailer and i watched it four times.
I did, however hear, "Yeager Program", which is probably a reference to Chuck.

I'm willing to bet this movie is rife with nerd tags. The previous trailers that had GLaDOS as the voice of their "computer" is pretty obviously missing this time around.

Yeah, I heard Yeager/Jaeger (with an umlaut over the e). It pretty much looks like Evangelion though

As others have stated, they called it the Jaeger project. The giant robots are called Jaegers; it's been slapped all over the marketing for the movie for...oh, just the past year or so.

It's borrowing from various anime and tokusatsu series and films for its inspiration, just as Evangelion did before Pacific Rim. Gainax didn't invent the concept of giant robots fighting giant monsters; Toei's Super Sentai series(the shows the action footage for Power Rangers was taken from) has been doing it since the 70's.

It may seem like shameless borrowing, but Pacific Rim is paying homage to the genre as a whole.

First movie in a long time I'm actually excited to see. This is also the kind of thing that 3D is actually good for!

Btw to answer a question about the pic I posted, yes it is real, and yes it costs about 2 mill. Who buys them is your guess. I got rid of mine after a week when it shrank my laundry.

The only thing that's got me boggling about this movie is if you're gonna link two pilots so they act as one all the time... why have two pilots?

I for one already want a mixed drink that combines the hallucinatory effects of jagermeister with the concept of giant fighting robots.

For 2, hole shiz kids are going to be crrrrazy for this. Giant robots, fuck yeah.

For 3, who would like to see an Uwe Boll Blood Dragon feature length film? Common, it's perfect.

And for those of us who are still kids inside.

That... might actually work. God save us all.

This guy?

I would have cast Michael Biehn, since he's the voice actor, but to each their own!

Just teasing.
