College Football Playoff: Who Ya Got?

Tonight is essentially college football’s version of the “Super Bowl” and the stage is set for an SEC standoff between the Alabama Crimson Tide versus the Georgia Bulldogs. I have no dog in this fight, as my Florida Gators didn’t even make a bowl appearance, but I am glad to see a Southeastern Conference matchup between Georgia and Alabama. According to CBS Sports, the majority of the pundits are picking the Tide to win it, but I’m hoping for a Georgia upset. Alabama has recent victories, but Georgia hasn’t seen a title since 1983, according to the article. In any advent, I am hoping for a good game like last year’s match between Clemson and Alabama. Last college football game of the season, who ya got?

Quote:
For the Bulldogs and their fans, this is an opportunity decades in the making. Georgia has not played for a national title since 1983 nor brought home the championship since 1980. The Crimson Tide, meanwhile, will be playing in their third straight title game and sixth over thel last nine seasons. Alabama is 4-1 in its previous five such games and defeated LSU 21-0 in that prior all-SEC meeting to win the 2011 title.

I think the whole thing about UCF declaring themselves the national champions is far more interesting than the game itself.

I'd like to see Georgia win it all, but Alabama just knows how to win these.

I say Alabama 27-20.

After a poor showing last week, I see Clemson coming in and beating them both!

A good friend of mine, Charlton D. Wells, AKA CD, was a LB for Bama back in the eighties. His football career was cut short by a severe broken leg, that left him unable to play anymore. So, of course I root for Bama, along with my very large buddy.

Go Army, beat Navy!*

Screw 'bama. Don't give a rip about the dogs. On brave old Army team!

* Which they did. And Air Force. And their best record in decades. And only their second ten win season ever. And their first Commander-in-Chief's trophy in two decades. And an all-around awesome season.

I'm boycotting the "national title" game tonight. Alabama vs Georgia should have been, at best, a semi-final. The committee should have matched them up in the semi to determine a true SEC champ. In any other sport do two teams from same conference/division play for the final title to be champion? No. We did this before; LSU vs Alabama & it was the most boring shit turd of a championship game one could watch. This game is proof that conference championships don't matter to the selection committee. How would the rest of the country feel if it turned out to be an all Big 10 national championship? Big 12? ACC? Pac 12? Not watching. Not interested

Well, so far you’re right. It’s about as exciting as watching paint dry.

Records don't seem to matter, either. Under any other set of circumstances, an undefeated team would at least get a shot at the championship. Clearly records are meaningless, rankings are arbitrary and the committee will select the teams they want.

Any athletic competition with one dominant team or individual eventually begins to become boring. I know because for over a decade my team, Army, lost to Navy year after year (they are now on a two win streak!). It got to the point that I think some Navy fans were probably hoping for a loss or two to just restore some semblance of interest and tension to the game.

So I'm quite bored with Alabama winning. It's just not interesting to have the same school win five of nine...over half of the championships to one school in a decade. If not for Clemson last year, it would be three in a row!
