In the end this new generation is nothing but a disappointment regardless of what these greedy creatively bankrupt companies decide to do...
keep it cheap we all gota eat. I would pay 5 bucks for this on launch day.

I hate how restricted the PS4 feels vs how you can customize your Vita. Also lack of video support. I mean my smart tv can handle files proper but shiet.

Btw, I don't think it is a console exclusive, but FF Type-O is actually a really fun game with quite good combat. Once I learned to use the killswitch by focusing targets and use quick draw to attack and then cast, I started having mastery. At first it is going to feel like you are having to spam dodge to get off a few attacks without dying, but start focusing enemies to get killswitch and you'll soon be raping everything. Also, switching cadets is a lot of fun.

Are you enjoying a barely remastered PSP game?

Yeah. It's a lot of fun. It definitely looks like an upscaled PS2 game, but the gameplay is solid. The story is awful, but it has fun combat and lots of systems like classic JRPGs instead of being paint-by-number impossible to make mistakes like most modern RPGs.

How's FF15?

1. Gorgeous. Seriously beautiful and they haven't even optimized yet. They are targeting 1080p for the full release and this was 720 (I think).

2. Combat is a mixed bag. It's fast and interesting with different swords that you can equip to different fight functions and these changes significantly effect gameplay. You have a weapon as your "main weapon" that is the combo-builder and that determines your magic attacks, but there are other slots for things like which weapon you use to parry return attacks. You get warning marks when a big attack is incoming and if you press and hold the defense key, this will prime a parry which deals significant damage. However, while that is cool it doesn't come into play all that often as the mobs are fast, mobile, and often focus on your team, so you can't play the game as a counter-puncher unless they are all dead - and that's bad as you get significantly more xp for finishing battles quickly and without losing health due to an xp modifier. So it's a nice skill to have, but you also need to work in your own attacks. Another big thing that you have as Noctis is a quick-strike ability that lets you fly across the battlefield to close with enemies. This is also a mechanic that plays a vital role in boss battles as you regain MP if you use the Warp to get to a high place - and MP is a big deal as you need it for defense. This all SOUNDS good, but honestly it doesn't flow that well. because not all mob attacks create a parry opportunity which makes knowing when to dodge difficult, and the optimal attack pattern for trash is super easy and repetitive: Quick strike, combo attacks, pause, heavier attack. Plus, while your friends are around and helping a little, you can't direct them in any way - so they can start to feel like people you have to escort to keep your xp bonus up rather than your help. Also, boss mobs are MEAN - like one hit knock you out mean, but that's also a mechanic because going to 0 HP doesn't mean death. You can get back up if a squad-mate helps you up or if you use a potion. Also, when you unlock an eidolon (a summon), it is in this state that you are able to summon the Eidolon.

3. The story is very simple and that works for the demo as it won't spoil the main game. The characterization and voice-acting are solid. The lead character, Noctis, has a voice that is a bit jarring (seeming far too mature for the young character), but all the rest were great. Also, the dialogue and the facial expressions really bring these characters to life as actual characters. You'll finish the demo really knowing what those characters are about and it's all just from the exposition of how they behave.

4. Character progression and itemization were not really in the demo other than heal items. You do unlock one summon through the main quests and you do get levels for xp, but the levels don't do a lot for you. With the exception of the summon (Ramuh) which they made insanely powerful, you'll feel basically as powerful as you did at the beginning of the demo - especially as the damage in combat is MUCH more about what kinds of attacks you are doing than which weapon you have equipped or whatever level stats are behind it. This worries me as it may be a case of "progress quest" where a bunch of number go up as you progress but basically it's always about learning the combat system. Don't get me wrong, I like the combat, but I want enough freedom in character progression to tailor it to my preferred playstyle rather than this being DMC with some pretty number flashing to make it seem like an RPG.

5. I did a handful of sidequests for minor xp (basically what you'd get from one battle), so they weren't worth it and they didn't have story unlocks either. However, I only found like 3 of them that I ran into while doing the main quest. There may be hidden ones I didn't encounter and will have to look up on the internet to find and those might be worth something. So far though, the open zone thing just appears to be a large map in which to be on free-roaming rails.

The same as all the rest of them. Tired mechanics, turn based combat, nonsensical story, male characters that could pass as broads. So basically every JRPG ever pretty much.

Thanks bean. The 1080 is not gonna happen but it will most likely run the best on the PS4. The lack of a female protagonist/art style/you can only use one guy is very off-putting though. If it is solely gonna rely on one guy he better be like-able but I doubt that. I'll see how my fellow gamers review this before I buy it. I only asked because I know a hardcore fan boy/girl that likes these titles and he/she wasn't impressed. Then again he/she has been jaded as fuck lately.

I still like these games over yearly sports/shooter titles. Which I don't buy. I'm expecting a solid SP experience with boring characters and I'm okay with that. There will never be a FF6 again, there are some good RPG's coming out of Atlus these days but Squeenix is pretty much just gonna give me monster and lore that I'm familiar with. I also saw the Behemoth fight in the demo and I kinda smiled. Was weirded out how he didn't counter with Meteor though.

To each their own, if you get enjoyment outta em, more power to you really. I haven't liked a JRPG since FF3 (FF6 in Japan) That's where it peaked for me with those games.

I'll stick to western party based CRPG's, looking forward to Pillars of Eternity this week.
