METAL JESUS ROCKS!: Gems That -Aren't- Truly Outrageous

What do hair metal and the GameCube have in common? Well for one, both have received more love retroactively than they ever did during their prime. Also, they each offer one of the few stages where a distorted and relatively unattractive man can command the adoration of legions of fans.

They're likewise both on the list of things that make the Metal Jesus happy. Hence the reason this week's episode of METAL JESUS ROCKS! features Part 2 of his look at hidden gems for Nintendo's happy purple lunch-pail.

There's no baiten-switch going on here as the dubnium demi-gamer presents his killer 7 for gaming heaven on the little box that still rocks:

Be sure to check out Part 1 of MJ's Hidden Gems for the NGC here.

My Gamecube collection accepts your compliment. I own everything but Geist, although my copies of Capcom vs. SNK and Skies of Arcadia are not of the GC variety. Rock on!

I actually saw Geist at Play'n'Trade when I was there on Saturday, but I opted to hold off for now, seeing as my current games backlog can only be described as "ludicrously long".

Speaking of Killer 7, I recently saw one of the characters therein listed as the most evil villain ever in a game. I didn't understand why until I saw the below cut-scene.

(Warning: NSFW due to language, and possibly not safe for parents due to the empathy effect. While stylized, the content can be quite disturbing, particularly if you have kids.)

I didn't think the Baiten pun was nearly as clever as the thread title, especially when I used it to segue into the whole hair metal comparison. Oh well.

Wife makes fun of me for knowing the Gem theme song and for being able to sing it on command. Dude, my sister (andddd I) watched that show -- not my fault!

Doesn't compare to the Thundercats intro (insta-adrenalin dose).

I've been working the hard-sell on MJ to pick that one up; hopefully he'll give in soon. Honestly, it shouldn't be such hard work to convince someone to pick up an awesome game like Pac-Man VS for $6 or $7 bucks.

Geist looks kind of like Messiah, but less awesome.

If he'll give top shop a go, it's only a matter of time. You could do an episode just around those two games with 3 other guests for some serious multi or even couples action since both titles would be casual friendly. Just a warning top shop has a slight learning curve until everyone has played it once so don't go in dry and do a practice run!

Baten Kaitos is a hell of a game. I picked it up a few years ago for like $5 while I was between working PC's, and it had an assload of content. The way combat was completely based on a random card battling system was great. I actually spent enough time playing that I beat the game, which is not something I do often for rpg's. A must have for GCN.

I own all of these but Capcom vs SNK.

I loved my gamecube. I wish they would make a Baten Kaitos update or sequel.

Only games I ever used the link cable for were Zelda Wind Waker and Four swords.. the rest just mainly unlocked content IIRC?... never seen PacMan Vs though.

The Geist mechanic of possessing people was previously used in Messiah and as far back as Paradroid on the C64 in the 80's.. the latter was a great game btw, shame one of it's designers Andrew Braybrook left the industry... writing software for insurance companies now .

I LOVED playing Paradroid on my cousin's Apple IIe. Great game, and way ahead of its time, IMO.

Good luck!
