mother! Bombs on the Weekend Boxoffice Chart

The Stephen King adaption It continues to scare up record ticket sales, taking in an estimated $60 million in its second week and leaving a paltry $7.5 million for Darren Aronofsky's audacious genre-bending psychological thriller mother!

Here is the Weekend Boxoffice Chart for the weekend of September 15th to September 17th, 2017.
  1. It $60.0/$218.7
  2. American Assassin $14.8/$14.8
  3. mother! $7.5/$7.5
  4. Home Again $5.3/$17.1
  5. The Hitman's Bodyguard $3.5/$70.3
  6. Annabelle: Creation $2.6/$99.9
  7. Wind River $2.5/$29.1
  8. Leap! $2.1/$18.6
  9. Spider-Man: Homecoming $1.8/$330.2
  10. Dunkirk $1.3/$185.1
  11. Logan Lucky $1.0/$26.8
  12. The Emoji Movie $.975/$83.8

mother! bombed with a 'F' Cinemascore. Who knew that consumers didn't want to watch Jennifer Lawrence lecture them on the evils of Christianity? I never would have guessed.

What, people don't like being confused when they go to the cinema? You sold them on one thing and they got another? Shocking!

Once again, Darren Aronofsky is proving that he is either hit (Pi, Black Swan) or miss (The Fountain, Noah).

Um... so, why is it listed at #3? It shouldn't even be listed at all...

Sad part is, it still made $7.5 million.

Because it was the third highest movie in total ticket receipts for the weekend.

Which, happily enough, isn't saying much for Hollywood, which is seeing a collapse in the box office. I find that more entertaining than most of their craptacular films, lol. It bombed. It got third because the whole box office is bombing right now, other than IT.

Iím planning on seeing Mother later this week. Iím no fan of Jennifer Lawrence either as a person or an actor. I do however usually enjoy Aronofskyís work and wonít be a bit surprised if I enjoy this film. Iíve only seen the very first trailer that was released awhile back ago and I remember it giving me a little bit of a ĎWe are the Fleshí vibe. Itís going around that people thought they were going see one particular sort of film and instead got something else entirely which may account for some of the disappointment.

Or maybe itís just a shitty movie. Iíll find out later this week.

If you do enjoy films that are a bit off though, I highly recommend We are the Flesh.

The entire premise about mother from what I read about is absolutely stupid (if true).

From a longtime fan of Aronofsky, don't. Please don't. Save your money, wait until you can watch it for free. You WILL thank me.

As someone who loves the vast majority of this director's work, I hope the man never works in Hollywood again. I am offended that this movie was ever allowed to happen, and that I was allowed to go waste my money and time on such a pile of pretentious garbage.

Got my tickets to see Kingsman this weekend. A guilty pleasure like John Wick. It might not be the best movie or have the pedigree like a Bond flick but the first was at least worth the ticket price.

EDIT: I feel sorry for the folks in the movie that did not put their foot in their mouth politically but I can't help feeling there was a little schadenfreude in Power Couple JLaw and her Climate Change zealot sweetheart Aronofsky getting slammed with this fail.

I can only hope Jenny's next few movies also bomb at the box office. She's taking a two year break but has a couple movies already in the can for next year including an X-man movie I hear. If they fail she'll have a tough time keeping her "highest paid actress" cred and might be a little more humble, shut up, and stick to pretending and making movies... people want to see the approachable gal who played Katniss and Mystique not Jennifer Lawrence: MSNBC Left Wing Political Pundit.

Which is probably not even half of what J took home. It will be a major loss

This. Remember when the Fappening happened and people were saying how cool Jennifer Lawrence would be based on her reaction shots from ComicCon? These kind of images will fade away in the collective conscious of the Internet, just like it did for actors/actresses like Leonardo Dicaprio, Brad Pitt (I blame Jolie for bringing him down, but that is a topic for another day) and Gwyneth Paltrow.

People want the cool hip person who is having a good laugh on Graham Norton and not a douche who is talking down to them in a position of wealth and privilege.

Probably, but I definitely appreciate those who realize they enjoy a life of luxury so removed from anything remotely resembling the real world that they keep their opinions to themselves.

For example Ed Harris and Michelle Pfeiffer who JLawArnofesy brought down with them on this apparent abomination of a movie.
