I think the only PS1 game I have is Silent Hill. Which I can't play because my 60 GB PS3 finally got the Yellow Light of Death.

PS3's are so cheap, I have 2 (one for the "play room", one for the bedroom). Go get another one!

Or, send it to me if you don't want it any more!

I was under the impression that most PS3s were not backward compatible, and therefore the ones that are actually run fairly rare and pricey.

I could be wrong. I don't own one.

Off the top of my head, I would go with:

Einhander
Wipeout XL
Jet Moto
Twisted Metal
Demolition Derby
Need for Speed III Hot Pursuit
Crash Bandicoot
Metal Gear Solid
Vagrant Story
Valkyrie Profile
Chrono Cross
Front Mission 3
Wild Arms
Suikoden II
Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver
PaRappa the Rapper
Castlevania: Symphony of the Night
Final Fantasy VII through IX.

Then there are games like Tomb Raider, Resident Evil, and Final Fantasy Tactics which have seen HD reboots or updated remakes.

All PS3's play PS1 games... It's PS2 games that only work on the original run.

Good info! I thought I could be wrong, considering my grand total of PlayStation hardware is zero.

Does the PS4 have backward compatibility? I could look it up, but why bother? I'm not buying one. Just curious.

Some of my memorable favorites.

Apocalypse (with Bruce Willis!)
Arc the Lad Collection (Working Designs always delivered quality collector editions)
Blasto (RIP Phil Hartman )
Colony Wars (outstanding spaceship combat)
Einhander
Front Mission 3 (tactical mech combat done right)
Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver (seriously, we need a sequel)
Legend of Mana
Legend of Dragoon
Lunar: Silver Star Story Complete
Lunar 2: Eternal Blue (the cloth maps packed in these collector editions smelled terrible)
King's Field 1 and 2 (From Software, makers of Demon/Dark Souls)
Saga Frontier I and II
Syphon Filter 1-3 (these were really good action games)
Tactics Ogre (the prequel to Final Fantasy Tactics, which I missed. <edit> )
Tenchu (Ninja simulator you dreamed about as a kid)
Thousand Arms (JRPG with dating sim. It was great.)
Twisted Metal series
Vagrant Story
Valkyrie Profile
and all the other <insert great JRPG name here> I missed. The Playstation is what brought me over to playing on consoles more consistently. I was until then mostly gaming on PCs. So many great gaming memories.

Seriously, no mention about the NeGcon? If I could, I'd still play racing games with this thing today. It was so awesome, I had trouble using the analog sticks later on. By the way: The original PlayStation controller wasn't immediately followed by the DualShock. For about a year (1997 or so), Sony produced the "Dual Analog" controller. It didn't have a vibration feature, but its sticks were concave and thus vastly superior to those used in the DS1, DS2 and DS3.

Speaking of the NeGcon, you probably could have filled the whole video just with Namco products. Sure, "Soul Edge"/"Soul Blade" was awesome, but hardly anything beats "Tekken 3", especially for new players. And no mention of the "Ridge Racer" series? No "Ace Combat"? No Namco Arcade Stick (I believe you can still use it on the PS3 with a cheap adapter, not sure about the PS4). "Klonoa" was also really well-made and had a lot of fans.

Oh, and "Motor Toon Grand Prix 2" (just "Motor Toon Grand Prix" in the US, because you guys don't like counting:-) was amazing in many regards!

Other games or game series that deserve mention in my opinion (even if they're not exactly my personal favorites):

- Final Fantasy VII (of course)
- Tomb Raider (of course)
- Anything using a dance mat, like the excellent "The Jungle Book: Rhythm n' Groove" ("TJB: Groove Party")
- Bushido Blade
- Oddworld: Abe's Oddysee
- Tony Hawk's Pro Skater
- WipEout
- Suikoden II
- Metal Gear Solid
...

I'm starting to repeat Methos' and LostToys' lists, so I'll finish by adding something you don't know:

- Fox Hunt (seriously, look it up:-)
