Watch Jason Momoa in Netflix’s Frontier Trailer

Click on the Headline for the Trailer.

Jason Momoa stars as Declan Harp, a part-Irish, part-native American outlaw campaigning to breach the fur trade. Frontier arrives on Netflix, January 20th.

I'm afraid that I didn't really see much to watch there. Violence, sure, loved Jason in SG Atlantis, okay, but I'll probably miss this one or pop over to imdb to see if it's a good one.

If this is a movie it is probably worth it but I feel like it doesn't do much for his brand; it nearly feels like a desperation move. Is the Aquaman ahem... floundering or something? If it's a series... I see a lot of useless filler.

This isn't competitive IMO with much of anything else out there. Dances with Kal Drogo?

Part Irish, part Native American.... in other words, like my wife.

So I think Frontier is a direct answer to the popularity of Hell on Wheels which is also on Netflix but is produced by AMC.
Netflix regularly does series set in the same period/style as hit shows, to see if they catch fire.
Perhaps Daredevil was an answer to Gotham.
Perhaps Marco Polo was some kind of answer to HBO's Tudors?

I think this method is well considered and it does on whole generate valuable hits for Netflix.

On the matter of the show topic, I think the topic is the story of British oppression of Indians during the frontier era, focusing on the rapscallion "Robin Hood" hero character.
I think that could be an effective storytelling core.

Comparing with Hell on Wheels, it doesn't have the story of the building of the Railroad driving all the characters forward, but I think it might be good enough.

I think the British "villain" characters are well cast. Depending on the writing and Jason Momoa's acting chops, this show could do well. If Jason Momoa doesn't inspire the audience, then it flops hard.
