Galaxy Quest TV Series in the Works #GalaxyQuest

The Hollywood Reporter has the story.

Quote:
A TV series based on the 1999 sci-fi film Galaxy Quest is in the works at Paramount Television.

The DreamWorks film centered on the cast of a canceled space TV show who are accidentally sent to a spaceship and must save an alien nation.

The film's scribe Robert Gordon is expected to write the TV version and executive produce with the film's director Dean Parisot, producer Mark Johnson and Johnson's producing partner Melissa Bernstein.

The film starred Tim Allen, Sigourney Weaver, Alan Rickman, Tony Shalhoub, Sam Rockwell, Daryl Mitchell and Enrico Colantoni.

I gotta say, that movie is one of my guilty pleasures.

Not that any of you care.

(You shouldn't anyway.)

The hard sell will be when they don't have any of the cast from the movie.

True. But, while the success rate of TV shows based on movies (excluding Disney animated movies) is pretty low, the exceptions all seem to be some form of sci-fi/horror/fantasy, and almost none involved the original actors. Stargate? Highlander? Would you think that a TV series based on "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" would be any good?

Indeed, more have failed than succeeded, but you never know!

I thought the movie had a great premise and was hilarious. I'd love to check out a TV series. If I had a TV subscription. Which I don't. Until the idiots go truly a la carte. Until then, it's Netflix and that's that.

Lights out on traditional TV. They're screwed.

The idea of the movie was basically a Star Trek/Star Wars parody, how can you stretch that out for a full series?

Then again, they can't do worse than the new Star Trek series we're actually getting, I suppose.

This is true. I don't have TV either. I hear more and more people all the time saying they are ditching statellite and cable and just watching Netflix or other streaming services.

We are watching the beginning of the end of television.

This is one series that could work on a low budget, with totally unknown (bad) actors.

Never give up, never surrender!

Buffy was awesome, however nowadays it would be canned halfway through season 1 unfortunately.

I found it to be very entertaining but I will admit that my expectations going in were staggeringly low.

I liked the movie a whole lot more than I thought I would. I would watch this tv series even though I don't really watch much tv apart from one season of GoT a year.

No! TV is not dead. Just wait till you see the next lineup: a new sitcom, a new police drama, a new eccentric detective show, and a new firefighter/EMT show. But the best new show yet will be "Cancelled", based on the hugely successful novels of a similar name, but changed to reflect the reality of production today.
