Brink Launches, is Terrible [Updated]

There's good news, and there's bad news.

The good news first:
Brink has launched.

And now the bad news:
Joystiq gives it a 2/5
IGN gives it a 6/10
And in an interesting twist, Eurogamer gives it a 8/10

Update: Brink looks to be trending upwards.

GamesRadar - 8/10
VideoGamer - 8/10
CVG - 8.0/10
GamePro - 3.5/5
Destructoid - 7.5/10

Well, glad I went with my gut and waited. I really wanted this to be awesome. Oh well, Crysis 2 and Battlefield are working just fine.

I'd like a demo so I can judge for myself. So far the reviews are saying its repetitive. Hell, every FPS is repetitive: you shoot things. I dislike that there are only 8 maps. I expected more since this is basically a multiplayer only game. And you know there will be $DLC...

Well my review has not gone live yet on vgrevolution.com but when it does it will say that the game is a blast to play. Perfect? No, but fun. The reviews from some of the main sites remind me of when Shadowrun released and got slammed, but if you spent some time playing it with friends it was great.

I just tried running my Steam version and the performance is terrible for me. I have an i7 and a 480GTX so I should have no issues...but this thing is unplayable for me right now and I'm too tired to try and figure it out tonight. Will look at tomorrow and hopefully get it to work better...but not a good first impression so far.

I'd wait for more reviews to form an opinion.

With PSN down, the xbox version broken (based on this article) and needing a day one patch, and horrible bot AI, no wonder the review are bad.

Nope, I like the flow when I say it like the title.

Yea, I was waiting for some info on this before I pulled the trigger, and after watching streams on Justin.tv I was actually pretty optimistic. I got to the point of putting it in my cart on steam before someone on the justin.tv stream said "Oh damn, it just got a 6 on IGN". I really dodged the bullet on this one it seems, although I'll consider it later if the community is still intact(and not hacked) in a month.

"Why we're not reviewing Brink, and why you shouldn't buy it (yet)"

The fuck? So the game is rushed...and because of that you don't want to review it? Bias? Didn't stop you from reviewing New Vegas...

Seriously, some consistency on this sort of thing would be nice.

Yeah I think it was the IGN vid review that said it only has 8 maps. Yet there will be $DLC in terms of maps, skins, tats, clothing for avatar, etc.

Shadowrun was crucified because of a MASSIVE lack of content, and deservedly so. It's a shame because it really did play like a dream.

This is shaping up to be the biggest flop of the year.

Homefront got 7s and people called that a disaster, but this is FF14 level.

Socom 4 has that earned the title...although I believe Duke will also be shit.

HF sold over 2.6 million. So it is considered a success, esp for new IP. It needed to sell 2 million to break even.

I don't see brink selling that many, esp with PSN being down. You also have to factor in that it is using id's tech 5 engine and according to reviews, the visuals are not that great.

This is trending below 50% at the moment, which would actually beat the 67% for SOCOM 4. Although so far Metacritic has only posted the two highest scores(Bribe?) so its showing an 80%.

I do agree about duke, but I'm not sure if I'd put it in the same category. Mainly because it has so many excuses to be horrible at this point, and Brink has none.

I'm glad to see that Homefront did well, the multiplayer really was fantastic until the hackers ruined it.
