SNES Classic Pre-Orders Go Live Later This Month

Shacknews has the story.

Quote:
The SNES Classic Edition system will be available to pre-order through various retailers late this month, Nintendo today noted in a Facebook post. No specific retail chains were mentioned.

The news follows a recent debacle, wherein numerous consumers thought they had secured a pre-order through Walmart but eventually found their orders being canceled by the retailer. It’s clear that consumer demand for the hardware is high, following shortages and the eventual discontinuation of the preceding NES Classic Edition.

“A significant amount of additional systems will be shipped to stores for launch day,” Nintendo added reassuringly, “and throughout the balance of the calendar year.”

“A significant amount of additional systems will be shipped to stores for launch day,” Instead of the usual 3 units per store we'll ship 7.

Wasn't this just one retailer, and only in the US? I pre-ordered through Amazon.de when the thing became available. I haven't heard anything about potential problems with that order. I'm just going to assume that Amazon guessed how many units would be available, minimum, and opened up their pre-orders for a half hour...

Scalpers are going to get fucked over when Nintendo have plenty of stock for this at launch. The Mini NES shortages will not be repeated, Nintendo are just maximising the hype.

You think so? I'm willing to bet the usual beer that there WILL be shortages at launch, and probably well into Christmas.

These will be scarce and then they will be gone for good.

I want to like this thing, but I hate scalpers so much and that's all I can think of when someone brings up the NES/SNES Classics.

I just hope the pre-order I got in on Amazon UK gets honored. Despite having the North American design when I was younger (and still have a system and its box in the closet heh), I preferred the look of the super fami-com more, which the UK version is getting.

I will be reserving mine asap but I am in Tokyo so mine will look a little different. It will be a mini version of my old one which is somewhere in my parent's place still I think.

I think it'll be slightly complicated, in that Nintendo will likely produce more units this time around...but people (and scalpers) will likely hit the available stock that much harder due to what happened with the NES Classic.

The end result will probably be the same, though.

Called it!

Snes Mini launches in Europe today and lo and behold i get an email today from Amazon, it's in stock and can be delivered in 2 hours.

All the BS by certain people about Nintendo purposefully not providing enough stock. If you read here:
http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/di...-nes-mini-tech

The reason the NES mini went out of production and had stock shortages was they were retooling for Snes mini but they can also produce both now as they share the same motherboard. So no Nintendo were not creating artificial scarcity of their product, they do in fact like making money.

I walked into a store this morning and had no issues getting one. Anecdotal, certainly...but, I easily got one, despite all of the pre-order crap.

As soon as I got off work I went out to buy one. No luck. Every store in the six-county metro area of 3.5 million people. Eat a dick Nintendo. Eat a BIG FUCKING DICK.

This guy comes out on Oct 10th

The console will come with
  • two 2.4 ghz wireless controllers
  • 85 built in games which include the Sonic the Hedgehog, Shining Force and Phantasy Star series.
  • It will also include two ports for your legacy controllers, as well as a cartridge slot to play most of your Genesis/Mega Drive games.

Do you have a link for that? I'd spring for it.

It's gamespot, but still, this killed any desire I had for it.

AtGames has a long history of producing garbage. They sent out review copies of the Sega Genesis Flashback a couple months ago and it's another buggy disaster. Random frame drops/low framerate, terrible music emulation, controllers use mandatory AAA batteries held in place by tiny screws, tons and tons of shit games you never heard of, and a busted UI system. AVOID.

I had heard that about them, and was hoping this new model would be better.
