Possible Gears of War 5 Box Art Leak.

Mediocre.

Box art doesn't really make all that much difference. Look at Rage 2, the box art is flat-out terrible, but it still looks like an amazing game. (Though I'm hearing the single player campaign is kinda short.)

It would be nice if these companies put more effort into the box art though. It would kinda encourage people to hang onto their collections.

Is anyone else stick to death of "strong women" in media? It's been a deluge. It's like the ultimate female fantasy, but for most women, that's all it is. Good to have dreams, I guess? I'm all for it because it actually makes life easier for men, but judging by my wife and my mother, completely unrealistic for most women. In my personal world, "I can't" is more the theme. I see all these professional women at work and think they must be aliens.

I'm with you. I'm all for strong women roles and everything, but these past couple years have been overboard in not only games, but movies and shows and comics. I'd be okay with getting to choose a guy or girl at the beginning of the game. For instance, the new star wars game, I'm stuck playing as that character when I would rather make my own jedi guy or girl. Definitely not him.

Yeah I'm sick of it too but in the end, it's just reducing the number of games that I want to buy but don't have the time to play.

If you want some medicine, like looking at kittens after a jumpscare, then go to PornHub, where even the "strong women" are laid low before a.... and scene.

If the current trends leads to more characters that are as well-written, well-acted, and empowered with agency as Sarah Whittaker and Rikki Patel in Days Gone, great. However not every creative is going to knock it out of the park.

Yeah that cover is lame as hell. I've always liked girl characters who kick ass, like Celine in the Underworld films, or Milla Jolovich in Resident Evil, or Tomb Raider, etc. I love horror films, and the "Final Girl" is always the person who survives or wins in the end. We could go on all day explaining how girls are great and there is no problem with them being badass. I liked Hercules more than Xena, though.

Everything I've seen of this game looks great, but I feel you guys that it seems a bit "on the nose" the way Gears suddenly has a female protagonist. I don't know, guess I'll wait and see what it's like.

That is one shitty looking cover for a long-in-the-tooth, been-there-done-that series of boring retread mechanics and set pieces.

Thank you, next.

None of these pinup ideals has ever been attainable, male or female. No regular Joe is ever going to look like Schwarzenegger or Stallone in their primes (or Jason Statham today). The important thing is how you deal with this realization - usually with either admiration or envy. Do I need to pull out the old "He-Man vs. Barbie" pic?

With that out of the way: What irks me about this (potential) box cover is not the angry-looking lady taking center stage, it's the misplaced priorities. This looks like the box for an adventure game, where I'm supposed to care about the protagonist's fate and her intricate web of relations to the people around here...

Even in its prime, "Gears of War" was never about the characters*. It was about running through a hail of bullets and chainsawing humanoid enemies in half. Remember the Limited Edition of Gears 2? That box art told you everything you needed to know about the game:

*) I only remember Marcus Phoenix because of his blatantly misspelled last name. I actually played his friend in co-op throughout the first three games, but I'll be damned if I can remember his name right now...

I haven't played this series in a while. Is The Cole Train still around? That guy was great.
