James Bond No Time to Die Trailer

Quote:
In No Time To Die, Bond has left active service and is enjoying a tranquil life in Jamaica. His peace is short-lived when his old friend Felix Leiter from the CIA turns up asking for help. The mission to rescue a kidnapped scientist turns out to be far more treacherous than expected, leading Bond onto the trail of a mysterious villain armed with dangerous new technology.

In cinemas April 2020

I'll definitely be sad to see Craig go. Who's on the short list to replace him? I'd heard rumours of Idris Elba, Richard Madden, Cillian Murphy, and even Tom Hardy.

After watching Bodyguard, I'd vote for Madden.

Not too excited about this after watching the trailer. I get it's James Bond, and it follows a formula but most of the trailer stuff was very cliche. Will probably watch it on Bluray when it comes out but not worth the trip to the theater.

I would look up a "Meh!" image on the internet, but I can't bring myself to care enough about this trailer to do so. This is just a soulless action flick! No style, no humor, no sex appeal, and now they've even killed the trademark "Bond. James Bond." phrase by making it sound like the cashier didn't get his name when he first said it.

I still hope they hire Loki (Tom Hiddleston) for the next films and bring back some of the old elegance and glamour...

Supposedly they are looking to continue with a black female 007.

Tyler Perry's Madea Saves England

In all seriousness, I can't see it working out. Ding's short list is from what, right after the last movie? One of Skyfall's main themes was that Bond was a relic of an older era that didn't fit well in the new era, and there's a callout about changing times at the beginning of this trailer. I love Craig Bond but he has to be done after this. They might even kill him at the end of the movie. Whoever replace him -- it has to be like Robert Pattinson fresh with Oscar Isaac acting caliber.

Eon Productions want to keep Bond going because $$$, same with all these franchises, simply because they are an ongoing concern as a business, but I'm just wondering when the formulas of the 50s - 80s are going to give way to new ones -- or if that's even possible. Put another way, we're still seeing Boomer movies.

I was going to cite John Wick as a recent example, but that was a stylistic change (similar to the Bourne franchise), not a formula change. CoD: Modern Warfare changes vs. what was in CoD4: Modern Warfare is more the kind of "update" I am thinking of, where you are hewing to a brand but what that brand means is fitted to a contemporary audience or world view.

But whatever. We'll probably all be dead from climate change or some other global disaster before the "Hollywood has run out of ideas" trope ever goes away. More like Hollywood has only so much bandwidth for movie production and little room for new pipelines of content to be introduced with all the space devoted to decades-old franchises from all forms of media (and that's why Disney was buying those franchises up).

I like how the stonk womyn of color put that old white man in his place. When she said "stay in your own lane" I stood up from my chair in delight and shouted "Girl power!" Maybe they will have a scene where male James Bond gets tortured by being hit in the testicles repeatedly like in Casino Royal. Out with old, in with the new!

The headlight guns at the end were a nice Bond touch. Other than that, I don't know. I've enjoyed some of the Craig films and disliked others. I'll probably watch it when it comes to streaming unless the reviews are stellar.

As long as the head of the I.T. technical department doesn't plug an external laptop into the network, I'm sure that it'll be a great film.

That one scene... is probably one of the dumbest scenes I've ever, EVER, seen in a serious movie (and I've seen a lot of Kevin Sorbo movies).

Craig is a good Bond, but not the best.

Related, did you guys think the latest Mission Impossible was way better than any 007 movie in the last 10 years?

I did

The Mission Impossible movies got really good from the 3rd one on. I like how they have referenced back to previous events too. Very awesome franchise.

Craig is an excellent action star, but a terrible James Bond imo. I'm with Scherge and hope they make Bond more debonair again. I fear that Mad Max RW is right though and we're going to get Girl Power, PC, current year twitter crap

They were seriously courting Tom Hiddleston for this movie and that was one of the things that brought Daniel Craig back to the table. I would imagine that he will be their go-to guy for the next film.

I'm prepared to be ridiculed but Live and Let Die is my favorite Bond movie and Roger Moore's portrayal in that film my favorite version of Bond. That alone may render my opinion on anything else suspect but I'll plow on anyway.

That said, I appreciated what Craig brought to the table. The Bond's tend to cycle through camp and grit in several film swings and things were getting a little campy by the end of Brosnan's tenure. The Bond of the books was kind of an uncouth, vicious, stone killer rather than debonair playboy and Craig captured that.

What I liked most about Connery, Moore, and Brosnan was the ability to go from wry humor to cold eyed killer and back again within a single scene. Craig's Bond was a little more unidimensional there, but as I said, I think that was needed after Die Another Day, just as a change was necessary after Octopussy and A View To a Kill.

This is a slightly dangerous thing to say on this forum but I might actually be interested to see if a female Bond can pull off that cold humor/stone killer transition. But I'd still like to see Madden get a crack at it.

I think Idris would be able to pull off the debonair aspect as well as the punch you really hard part. So many of the former Bonds, while suave, are just impossible to accept as athletic or "tough". I could beat up Pierce Brosnan with a freshly laundered kerchief.

There has been a slew of female hero movies in the last few years (Anna, Concrete Blonde, etc.) and most of them have only had middle-of-the-road box office.

Compare that to John Wick, which just does monster box office.

A female James Bond is a terrible idea and it would bomb at the box office. I doubt the studio will go that direction. I think they are smarter than that because they can look at all those other films and see that none of them took off.

No, I agree with you. I wouldn't take a chance, given how much of a cash cow the Bond series is. But I would watch it to see how a female actor would do.

I wonder what the audience demographics are for the Bond films? If they're heavily on the male side, which seems plausible, then that makes a change like that even more risky.

I don't think you can do a female Bond well. Being male is an integral part of the Bond identity in my view. It would be like making a male Lara Croft. Being female is pretty central to Croft. A male Croft would simply be a different character and the same is true for a female Bond. I'm not saying you can't make a good female spy movie but it wouldn't be the same, nor should it be.
