Devil May Cry 5 has Microtransactions

Devil May Cry 5 has microtransactions. Eurogamer has the story.

Quote:
Devil May Cry 5 will allow players to spend real money to upgrade their characters.

The news came via a build of the game being shown at Tokyo Game Show, in which orbs could be bought at Divinity Statues in-game to hurry up progression - a system that had previously appeared in Devil May Cry 4 Special Edition, though given the backlash that similar systems have faced it's still a surprise to see it return.

Gamespot spoke to Devil May Cry 5 director Hideaki Itsuno about the inclusion of microtransactions in the game. "With giving people the ability to purchase Red Orbs, it's something we want to give people as an option," he said. "If they want to save time and just want to get all the stuff at once, those people can do that. But on the other hand I don't feel you have to get all the moves. You should be able to play it the way you want to play it."

That's right! Now you can decide whether the devil cries or not! Simply purchase the "Devil Do Cry" or the "Devil Don't Cry" $DLC! Or get both in the "Devil Be Trippin" package!

I have yet to play a single one of these games. Are any of them must-plays?

You should probably qualify your opinion with a game of this type that you DO like.

The only ones that really fall in the same (or similar) category are; Bayonetta, Neir Automata, the old God of Wars, Darksiders and really that's it.

No, none of the automatted fighters count (Batman, Spiderman, Prince of Persia, etc).

Devil May Cry is a pure combo / launcher based combat adventure game. It has its hits and its misses, but when it hits, it hits hard.

I advise checking out DMC3 in some sort of HD collection or this up-coming DMC5. The Ninja Theory DMC is fine to play, but everyone got butt-chapped about how they treated the character, so YMMV.

This is one series they need to retire in favor of new IP. I can see the comparison to Bayonetta, but no, old GoW, Darksiders, and Nier Automata are NOT really in the same genre at all. That's like saying Diablo is a musou game because you beat up lots of monsters. Also, all the those games mentioned are infinitely better than DMC, except for Bayonetta series which is basically a clone.

Is it ever a shock when it's announced that an upcoming game will have microtransactions? Face it, this is the new normal. That, and 8 different versions of the same game: Standard Edition, Limited Edition, Deluxe Edition, Gold Edition, Collector's Edition, etc.. Each tier makes you feel as though, if you don't upgrade, you're missing out on the entire experience.

The gaming industry has become more and more toxic to gamers over the last 10+ years. I don't even care to see the next money-grab scam that eventually becomes an industry-wide standard practice. It's why I don't feel bad when people pirate games.

P.S. I almost forgot about the Early Access bullshit. "Pay us to Alpha/Beta test our shitty game!"
