Turns out, they were in a pyramid under Antarctica the whole time!

But Weyland-Yutani didn't get them, and Weyland nor Yutani got them.

Right.

Again, one of the overarching themes of the original three movies is that Ripley was fighting to prevent the aliens from getting to Earth at all costs. She even gave her own life to ensure the company wouldn't get their hands on a queen.

During its opening sequence, AvP established that they had been on Earth the entire time, trapped in a pyramid under Antarctica. One opening sequence essentially invalidated three movies worth of motivation, plot, and character development. Ripley's battle and sacrifice meant nothing, because the aliens were already on Earth, apparently.

I judge the movie on it's own merits and not on how it seems to invalidate earlier movies. That's a easy excuse to rag on something that really doesn't matter internally to the film. I realize it's not Art, but it's still Fun.

It matters in that they explicitly tried to make the two AvP movies prequels to the Alien films, which kinda takes a big ol' greasy shit all over the original material in many ways.

If you like 'em, I'm not going to judge or rag on you; you like what you like. I just think they're awful and don't really deserve to be included in either series.

Weird moment: People kept mentioning a 2nd AvP movie, which I had no memory of until I finally looked it up and read the synopsis. Yeah, I actually did see that one, but apparently my brain completely blocked it out. Okay, so I'll give up that one, but I still love the first AvP. More than P2 with Danny Glover, which is all over the place, some good stuff, but so much schlock too. A classic, but no original Arnold Predator.

Everything you've stated is true, but I don't care because they're not cannon. Just like I can enjoy AVP comics, books, and various other media; they're just fun elsewords stories.

Fuck you all. Predator 2 was genius.

When the Predator's own weapons got used against him I cheered and so did everyone else in the theater.

Danny Glover was the shit.

Agreed, Predator 2 is a decent movie. It expanded on the universe in the right ways without going overboard.

Yeah I always liked Predator 2. Predator 1 is still far and away the best but I thought 2 was a decent runner up.
