Microsoft To Offer 24-Month Financing Plan For Xbox Ones

Game Informer has word that Microsoft is offering 24-month financing plans, at 0% APR, for Xbox One X and Xbox One S packages.

Quote:
Today Microsoft announced a new way for potential customers to buy Xbox One X, with a financing plan that Microsoft itself is putting together called the Xbox All Access.

Purchasers of the plan get access to the following: an Xbox One (either an S or One X), 24 months of Game Pass, and 24 months of Xbox Live. The Xbox One S plan will cost $21.99 a month for 24 months while a plan for an Xbox One X will cost $34.99. No games are offered with the plan but the subscription to Game Pass gives you access to what Microsoft says is "100 all-you-can-play games" for as long as you have the subscription.

If you have to finance a console's price over two years, maybe you shouldn't be buying a console. I know money is tight for a lot of people, and my wife and I spent many years with a tight, tight belt ourselves, but priorities, people. Seriously.

Edit:

There are very, very few things in life that you should be purchasing on installment (interest or no, regardless); A house, a useful educational degree/certificate, perhaps a car though doubtful. Beyond that, if you can't afford it you should save up until you can. And if you can't save it up, you can't afford it.

I'm actually tempted to do this. Its not a bad deal. My wife hates "big" purchases even if I already have the money. For some reason she can swallow a smaller money shot more often then a big one. Would push getting a new computer back by about 5 months but...

yeah $35 bucks a month for 2 years to get an X, Gold, and Ga,e Pass, with ZERO interest is pretty cool.

I was hoping they'd just remove the paywall for multiplayer, but this isn't a bad idea. I know people who don't like buying large purchases, but would easily accept 35 bucks a month with no interest.

Seems like a test to see if people are willing to go with the “gaming as a service” model for the entire platform.

Cell phone model, here we come!

In two years you'll be able to upgrade your old Xbox One X for just signing a new 2-3 year contract for Xbox Live Gold and All Access...

Reeks of desperation. The systems aren't selling and there aren't enough games, so maybe if we just basically give them away people will come? HaHa. Not hardly.

Mostly this.

It's also a reply to Amazon offering the same option for PC kit. No interest installments on things like video cards (thanks miners). It's not a BAD idea and has the potential to earn defaulters an instant bad credit rating / interest payments to MS.

If it's handled correctly it could be a GREAT way to teach kids how the real world works when it comes to debt.

I'd be tempted to buy in on this, if only because I wouldn't have to dump $500 out of pocket immediately (especially since it's interest-free). I hate dumping larger sums of money at once, even if I could afford to do it twice...and if they're willing to let people break the cost up into monthly payments without charging interest, I'm not seeing how this is a bad idea.

Yeah...you'd be hard pressed to find a used One X for $150. I'm sure they're out there, but most of 'em aren't that cheap.

Going this route, you'd end up spending $840 over two years for a One X. Assuming you bought a new console and signed up for the two services bundled in this offer, you'd spend $860 over the same amount of time if you just bought one off the shelf...so, it's a bit cheaper, actually. If the Game Pass wasn't your thing, though, you'd save $240 by just buying one off of the shelf.
