Guerilla Games' Horizon: Zero Dawn received its share of critical praise after its February 28th launch date, and now Sony is announcing an impressive 2.6 million sales in the games' first two weeks, making it the best-selling new first party IP on the PS4. The latter stat shouldn't be too surprising, because of fairly limited competition and the fact that the PS4's install base is larger than it ever has been. In a statement, Shawn Layden, Chairman of SIE Worldwide Studios praised the game for innovative design and an immersive world:

"We knew Horizon Zero Dawn was going to be something special, so to see the incredible critical reaction to a brand new game world translate into this level of sales is really gratifying," he said. "Guerrilla has created a game that is nothing short of exceptional, and the reaction we have seen from fans from hours and hours of gameplay streaming to endless photo sharing shows just how impactful it has been."
Big numbers for Horizon.

Sony sells more copies of a single new IP in 2 weeks than the total of Switch sales

WRONG Trick statement. Nintendo didn't produce that many units! Question 2, the state of the Japanese game industry! Blackzc your thoughts!

Bonus points for anyone who recognizes who my reply was in tribute to

Phones did them in, just like THQ. No room for mid card'ers.

Are you saying the JDM game market is dead because fucking shit swipe games are better?

THQ made the same mistake their predecessor company, LJN made, too much expensive licensing of other companies IP that didn't sell, along with the Uplay tablet flopping..

My guess with the Jpn market is too much reliance on sequels and rehashes, though part of that is cultural with Japan in general, they tend to stick to traditional types of doing things. Might help explain why Nintendo seems so stuck in the past.

In hindsight, it's a brilliant move by Sony. In addition to the game just looking impressive from previews, I'm sure there are a good number of PS4 owners who are interested in Zelda but not sure if they should shell out cash on the Switch. Horizon comes along and sort of scratches the same itch which gives those curious fans somewhere to redirect their interests. It helps that the game is generally very well received too.

We've already discussed the differences between mass printing games and manufacturing a brand new device for a simultaneous global release.

You can't compare the two, despite how hard you're trying to.

So far I find Horizon a lot more enjoyable than Zelda. I can't bring myself to play more Zelda right now.

Understandable. Zelda games have always gotten better the more you play them. Horizon for now, BOTW for the next 20 years.

Or Horizon has less annoying BS and Zelda's story is not interesting at all.

Ok, this is troubling. Is the glossy shine starting to wear off so soon? I was not able to get a launch system and was waiting on the next round to see if I could get one and play this amazing game everyone is soiling their underwear over. But after reading some stuff in recent days, I'm starting to doubt.

You're always going to have a myriad of opinions - many of which are ever changing - about any particular game.

I fine BotW's story to be one of the more interesting ones out of the whole series; there's an actual sense of mystery with some of what happened, because Link is suffering from amnesia for the lion's share of the game.

My biggest complaints with the game are the number of dungeons (there are only four, but 120 smaller shrines are scattered around as well) and the boss fights are kinda samey...but. I understand why they're similar. I also hate the durability system...but, it gets better over time.

I do like the setting and story, though. It feels like a very different Hyrule.

It starts out slow but i think its going to end up being the best story in a zelda game. Which i know, are typically generic.
