So exactly how does all of that improve the racing aspect of this racing game? Are they now going to be on rails and "cinematic" like every freaking thing...

The demo was as close to on rails as I've ever seen a racing game get.

And yea, the "cinematic" direction they've been taking games is out of fucking control. Scripted sequences are OK every once in a while, so long as they aren't too long or abrasive, but every fucking FPS these days is loaded to the brim with them. What the fuck happened to deliberately placing enemies around a map and letting the player have their own experience? The last FPS I can think of that didn't just throw artificial waves of identical enemies at me until either enough time had passed or I crossed some trigger was... singularity I guess? Before that I don't even know. Maybe HL2, episode 2.

NFS: The Run is going to be the BF3 single-player of racing games.

SINGULARITY!!!! I forgot to finish it thanks for the reminder that game is so damn fun for being fairly generic.

Sad to hear the demo of NFS is what I feared.

I actually want to play this if the reviews are good - and I hating racing games.

I find it utterly boring and pointless to just race the same levels again and again. I know there is a market for racing games, but perhaps it is getting too small? I don't know. Looking forward to checking it out..

Oh, and singularity was pretty good - still linear maps etc. but combat was very cool with the options you had.

Crysis 2 also had this - and of course the new Deus Ex.

Frostbite2 would be perfect for a bad ass open world racer like Burnout Paradise using online features so it's not the same old racing like you mention. It would be awesome to be able to import custom tracks into the open world for online play or even make your own full tracks or little towns to use with preexisting data.

Yea, I guess Crysis 2 deserves credit for not having too many CoD issues. It was still pretty bad IMO, but for different reasons. The main issue was that the aliens were really unfun to fight, as in all Crytec games. I didn't count Deus Ex since its a RPG, but yea, it was fantastic.

This is why its so weird to me that this game is a step back from Hot Pursuit. There are so many directions that they could have gone with this game that would have been a blast. What I'd really liked to have seen is a more sim feeling racing game with either an open world or the real street thing going on. Imagine playing a game like Shift 2 where you're racing around a crowded city.

My personal dream game is a GTA style game with simulator driving, classic hitman combat, and a full economy. Alas, I think that's too much to hope for in one package.

Man, a new Zelda running on a modern engine like that could look incredible.
