Looks really neat. Lead seems to act like he's in a 90's popcorn flick but I can get over it for what looks like a really slick setting. Lots of other talent there too.

I'll never understand why studios like to cast Koreans (or Chinese) for Japanese roles though. Why not just re-write the character to be Korean? Is there some sort of residual fetishism for the Japanese that didn't shake off after the 80's?

Looks pretty good, but the story is weak or at least has a major plothole with the limited info I have on it.

How important is it to solve a murder when the body is apparently so unimportant in this future? The guy has his consciousness in a clone already.

Ya know?

Also, @1:23 in the video is that Jax from Mortal Kombat? Lol

It's mainly because the DNA for these kind of adventures were created during the 70's and the 80's where Japan seemed like it was poised to take over the world. They were the country to look at when you thought of future technology. So until there is a generation that is no longer influenced by things like Neuromancer and Blade Runner, Japan is still going to be the go to culture when it comes to anything futuristic/cyber punk.

I personally like to think it is related more to the porn output of the country. Japanese Adult Videos (JAV) is easy to find, Korean porn is hard to find because their society still sees it as a shameful profession, and China outright bans pornography. So your go to Asian is still going to be Japanese.

That, and Korea is still looked down upon as the lesbian sister of Japan and if you go Chinese you get accused of demographic pandering and political complacency.

No, it's not and as huge Bladerunner fan - this was one hell of a book. Frankly, one of the best Sci-fi books I have ever read and this looks like it is keeping to close to its roots. If they do it right - it will be fantastic.

Not familiar with the story, but I'd conjecture the difficulty and/or cost of such a swap would make having to do it a bit...annoying, and the threat of a murderer out there waiting to make you go through it again would be motivation enough to find out who killed you.

But, for all I know the procedure in the story is cheap and easy and my hypothesis is garbage. IDK. :shrugs:

I've read the book and the story is amazing with no major plot holes.

The cost of a new body is extremely expensive in this universe although the guy who is murdered can afford it. But in the end he wants to know who wants him dead and he is missing memories as his backup only runs once per day.

People's consciousnesses/memories are stored in what are called cortical stacks, which are kept within the spine; if this is destroyed, the person is gone forever. Only the extremely wealthy can afford what is essentially cloud storage; part of the plot of the first book this series is based on is solving what is essentially the attempted murder of a rich dude whose cortical stack was destroyed. He is effortlessly re-uploaded into a new body...but, he's missing the previous 48 hours and is operating under the assumption that someone tried to permanently kill him.

People can be permanently killed in this setting.
