And this is, I believe, at the heart of why Sonic did so well... as did Captain Marvel last year and Black Panther before that. There's just not much to see at this time of year and people are looking to do something. I'm not saying that these were bad movies. But their success doesn't match the quality of the movie itself.

Saw Invisible Man today. It was cool, it's fine. The audio was really good, the story was decent, reminded me of a Black Mirror episode.

Sincerely, I rarely get got by jump scares. It rarely happens, because I usually see the setup and then don't fall for it. But this one got me a couple times, so props must be awarded for that. Overall I'd give it like a 7/10. Nothing much to complain about, and director Leigh Whanell continues to impress me.

People still have their standards. I mean Jumanji and Bad Boys are still on the charts while Birds of Prey has dropped like a stone.

Other horror movies which tend to do well this time of year, Fantasy Island and Brahams are also doing terrible if movies like the two month old blockbusters are still performing nearly at the same level. I haven't met many people who have seen them who I trust to give me a decent review.

I rewatched Captain Marvel not long ago and separate from the utter distaste I have for Bree Larson it wasn't any better or worse than the average Marvel movie. In fact I think it was better than Black Panther. At least you could see the final fight where Black Panther's took place in a space where you could hardly make out many details.

Were they billion dollar movies? I still don't think so, but at that point I think all marquee MCU movies were expected to hit at least a billion.
