You had me at Alita, lost me with James Cameron and then threw me off a cliff with Robert Rodriguez.

Uh.... With those eyes? LOL

But seriously thanks for posting this, very excited to see this live adapted cause it looks like a faithful retelling of the first chapter(s?) And Walz is definitely a good pick for the doctor.

I'd hit it. I've watched enough VR porn to and its fisheye distortion to be totally into it.

It looks good, overall.

Say what you will about Cameron, this feels like it will be a perfect example of what an adaptation should look like; it's evident that everyone involved legitimately gives a shit about the source material and wants to translate it into a good film.

It's a shame the same amount of heart couldn't have gone into Ghost in the Shell.

He is definitely a good choice, but we will have to see how they handle the combat/violence to see if this is a good version of the "Spine" manga chapters. Action in manga/anime is still very hard to capture well in live action because it just lacks the speed and viciousness of its drawn counter-parts.

They wanted the actress to look like Alita, I guess...

While her eyes are bigger than most of the other characters in the comic...I think they went a little too big with 'em. It's certainly jarring at first, but I have a feeling it'll look a bit more "normal" as we adjust to it over the course of the movie.

In the manga/anime her eyes are larger than normal because they are supposed to represent her more doll like features. One of the advantages of anime and manga is that you can have straight lines for biological features. So the eyes are large but they are more geometric/solid. In live-action they are rounder and more organic, which looks completely alien when everyone else has normal sized eyes. Giving the eyes angles or hard points would have gone a long way in making them more natural looking in this case.

I watched the Ghost in the Shell Anime a month or so before the film... They were very, very alike so I'm not sure what people wanted it to be. It's nearly the anime AS A FILM! ?? Anyway I'll grab the comic of Alita tomorrow and start reading.

I actually kinda like it, but it is jarring compared to the other characters and doesn't look right. If they were going to go with that style of a CGI character with big eyes, they should have gone with that across the board.

As far as I remember (its been like two decades since I read the manga), the men (per usual) had pretty normal sized eyes while the women had wide angular eyes. Only Alita really had the large, doll-like eyes.

For me it was the fact that the live action film did not earn the right to use the iconic scenes it was stealing from two films and series as the story and characters felt far removed from the sources. So it felt more like stealing rather than homage or translation.

My impression from this is not that sheís supposed to look real or realistic. Therefore, I donít really see the uncanny valley issue. Does she look weird? Sure. But isnít the uncanny valley phenomenon when they look too real, but not real enough?

Films are becoming far too dependent upon CGI blended with reality. It's wearing out its welcome with me in its ubiquity.

Yikes, I thought this was a cut scene for a video game at first. Terrible CGI. For example, watch from 1:09 to 1:12 and tell me that's not the cut scene for an upcoming PS4 game...

I hope at least 100 people told these three idiots that they didn't need that gimmick to make a good movie, or even a great one.

I'll watch it, and probably like it, but the reaction this is receiving online is deserved.
