Report: Destiny 2 Coming To PC, May Start Fresh And Include More Populated Areas

Game Informer has the story.

Quote:
With Destiny: Rise of Iron out last week, it's expected the team at Bungie would begin to look toward the next iteration of the series. What few expected was that we'd have any details about the game this soon.

Earlier today, neoGAF poster benny_a posted that they knew someone at Activision, and that they had told them the company had begun communicating early details on Destiny 2; this includes the game coming to PC, and that Vicarious Visions (which has worked on the Skylanders franchise) and High Moon Studios (which collaborated with Bungie on the first Destiny) would be helping with development.

Now Kotaku reports details on Destiny 2 corroborating some of benny_a's details. Additionally, Kotaku reports Destiny 2 will undergo some big changes from the original Destiny. "[Destiny 2] is a completely different game," says one Kotaku source. "The Taken King was a reboot for Destiny 1 to fix small things. This is the overhaul to fix big things.

Other details from the Kotaku report include planets being more populated with towns and outposts, and for quests to be more involved than the patrol missions players can undertake in Destiny.

I quote this everytime, but somehow, nobody seems to notice: The original contract between Activision and Bungie clearly stated that "Destiny Game 2" would come to PC. The section is not even hard to find - it's on the second page, ffs!

Apologies if your comment was aimed at the "more populated areas" bit...

PC Gamers getting our console sloppy seconds. That's a good thing, right?

Its largely what was happening for the entirety of the 360/PS3 generation. Nothing is really changing.

Leading up to the original's release, most of us PC Gamers were certain it was coming to PC. Then the game released to less than stellar reviews and most of us PC Gamers were fine with never getting the game. Then the game got good and I heard grumblings of people wanting it on PC. Fuck, people. Fuck.

It really is true, most AAA PC games are just ports -- sometimes terrible ports (Dead Rising 3, Batman) of console games. There aren't really any AAA PC-only developers left.

That is pretty much why I don't game on the PC any more. I like the occasional indie game, but if I'm going to throw a bunch of money at hardware I want games that were designed just for that hardware.

Gaming is more socialized now. PC gaming doesn't lend itself well to a group gaming experience outside of a purely online interaction.

I played the beta back in the day, and the first thing I thought is "This isn't coming to the PC" because the bad guys moved to slow to put up much of a fight against a player armed with a mouse.

I will reserve judgement, until a much later date. I have enjoyed Deiabl...Destiny and am curious to see what Bungie does next.

heh That's an odd comment to make on a news post about an online-only game. It's a console multiplayer game that can't be played locally. It's hardly the only one, either.

So much promise, so squandered. I hope they are willing to make things right with D2.

Ive seen others playing this & it just doesn't seem interesting to me.

Am I wrong?

Just looked like Borderlands with more grind... if that were possible.

Yes you are wrong. The artwork and guns are fantastic and the game is just a blast to play with friends. We have spent countless hours playing through this game online. (Emabulator and I)

If the single player storyline was better, this would have been the next Halo for sure. (It could also use more vehicles.)

I think that they fixed a lot of problems with Taken King and I'm sure they will move forward even more with Destiny 2. It might be THE game to beat this generation.

God I hope you're right.

I have, (for better or worse), supported Destiny with every update so far. A huge rip-off to be honest. Rise of Iron cost me $40. That's half the price of a full product, for a terrible amount of new content. I want a significant upgrade with D2... much more enemy variety, constantly evolving worlds, more vehicles, better co-op options...

But yeah... still somehow hooked on Destiny...

Purely opinion. I don't see how you can be wrong for feeling how you feel. I'm in the same boat. lol. Seeing The Division conjured up similar feelings. The grinding in these games doesn't seem fun.
