Like a Tear in the Rain Rutger Hauer Passes into History

Rutger Hauer passes away from an unknown illness at the age of 75.

Maybe his best known role was Blade Runner but he was one of the best "plug and play" actors ever, alongside the likes of Kurt Russell and Michael Ironside. If you needed someone for a role and couldn't find a good A-Lister you could always count on one of these guys to carry a good B-Movie or a season in a show. This guy was prolific, memorable, and made nearly every movie or show he was in better.

Such an underrated movie. I thought it was funny how George Lucas blatantly ripped off Blind Fury’s final battle for The Phantom Menace.

I'll never forget being freaked out by Rutger in the original The Hitcher as a kid! Another great performance in a long career of memorable roles!

I saw Blade Runner when I was 8 and I still can remember being glued to our shit TV the entire time and loving his death scene.

You understood the plot of Blade Runner when you were 8? I didn't understand it fully until my 30s. Still not sure I understand it.

Probably one of the most defining moments of my childhood, actually. When Data showed up in TNG it was like; duh, of course "he's" sentient and has rights ...

That was made possible by Roy Batty.

Sad to see this juggernaut go. The Hitcher will always be a 10/10 for me. Real air of mystery around his rare bullseye performances.

One of the most under-rated movies I remember him in is called "Blood of Heroes" with Joan Chen and a very young Vincent D'Onofrio.
