Btw, Rav those are all good points and what you said about China is interesting. People can effectively vote with their wallets, but when it comes to video games, I just don't give a fuck. I'd still buy Cyberpunk 2077 even if it came out that it was fully owned by ISIS. There are thousands of places we could all be taking a stand, and I just see Hong Kong as a non issue. You want freedom from China? Declare Independence and fight for it. America showed you the way (regardless of how far we've fallen since then...).
I think Honk Kong is a lost cause. Nothing anyone does can save it.
But I also think that the issue goes beyond Hong Kong. It affects us here.

Regardless of that though, the much more important part isn't actually any boycott.
It is that we have an effective counter against the political ambitions of our own companies here.
You know, all this kneeling shit in our sports now, or their marketing campaigns selling themselves as taking a stand for whatever.
Now we can just answer with "Okay, so what about China?" and gleefully watch them squirm around with "W-w-why are you bringing up politics? It's about the game!".

For this reason alone I will keep enjoying all the trolling on these companies now. We got them by the balls. They'll think twice their steps now.
Whether it's about what issues they bring up themselves, or how they hammer down on their customers.

I find it hard to believe that there are people that don't get the significance of the Hong Kong riots.

We've enabled the killing of a million people in Yemen (which in my opinion is a little more fucked up than some hearthstone player getting banned from esports)....so yeah, if we all can stomach the genocide in Yemen being committed with U.S. weapons, then forgive me if I don't get my panties in a bundle about HK. You are a Chinese territory after all.

I don't really care how other nations decide to conduct their internal affairs. Most Americans are, I am quite sure, sick of playing world police and don't really give a shit if you want to kill your neighbors internally. We can't fix you. You're broken. Goodbye.

My problem is with American companies warping or completely casting aside American values in order to get their grubby paws on a few more grubby coins. They've been selling out Americans to send jobs overseas for years with the approval of our globalist open borders elite and the price we're paying has become more and more clear:

Hollowed out American manufacturing and lost jobs.
Lost/stolen American technology.
Externally imposed values inimical to Western ideals.
Tens of thousands of dead Americans from Chinese fentanyl.

Enough of the bullshit. Decouple from these assholes or suffer from your Western customers' anger.

I think that the jobs will never come back because of automation.
It's possible that we'll get production back, but it's all robots anyway.
Even the Chinese are automating like mad right now, and they have to:
China is facing huge demographic problems from its one-child policy.
It has a rapidly over-aging population, probably worse than any other country, even Japan.
It is borderline catastrophic actually. As ridiculous as it sounds, but they are in danger of running out of a work force.
Which is part of why they too are trying to move up the product stack from low level production.

In our discussions right now it can seem that China is that mastermind having everything in control,
but actually China faces huge amount of problems themselves stemming from their failed social policies.

I sometimes even question how much longer the regime can hold on to its power anyway.
