Report: Transformers Movie Series To Be Completely Rebooted

Autobots, transform and roll out! GameSpot has the story.

Quote:
Although the Transformers franchise has proven to be a hugely poplar one, 2017's The Last Knight was the least successful film by some distance, suggesting that audience interest in the series might be fading. The spin-off Bumblebee is due out later this year, but a new report states that beyond that, Paramount is planning to reboot the whole series.

As reported by Transformer World, toy manufacturers Hasbro confirmed at the company's Toy Fair 2018 Investor Preview that the series will be entirely reset. In addition, a new agreement with Paramount means that Hasbro will have greater control over the property, including greenlighting movie projects. The site also reports that no Transformers movies beyond Bumblebee remain on Paramount's release schedule.

This is something of a change in fortune for the series. In October 2015, Hasbro announced that there would be at last four more movies, and that a "writers room" had been established to map out the next decade of Transformers across movies, TV, and digital. Following this, Paramount confirmed that Transformers 6 would arrive in 2019, which seems to be no longer the case.

The Last Knight made $605 million worldwide. This was well below the $1.104 billion haul for its predecessor, 2014's The Age of Extinction, and less than the first movie made back in 2007.

I'm cool with a reset as long as Peter Cullen is still the voice of Optimus Prime.

I hope they do the Transformer franchise justice. I hated the first film so much that I didn't give any of the sequels the time of day.

The Last Knight was HORRIBLE. Worst dialog ever.

I've read all of the UK comics, owned nearly, at one point or another, all of the G1 toys (But never Fortress Maximus). I love Transformers.

The movies? I'm glad that they were made but the (new) Toys were mostly and the actual films were garbage (IMO). Nearly all of the characters were throw away. Jazz? Ripped in two. Ravage? The same. Devastator? It had balls. There was even a Terminator bot.

Madness. 80% human interaction and 20% robot time. Is that really a great film?

Optimus Prime shouting, "I'll kill you!" at a human being. M Bay messed up in a lot of ways but, again, I'm glad that they were made as it has kept Transformers at the top of the toy chains. Here's to a meaningful reboot with a bit more robot soul.

Make the robot fights more like the 80s cartoons and less like a silverware drawer thrown into a tumble dryer and we might have something.

Stopped watching at 2. That movie hurt my brain.

Are they switching out Bay?

It was terrible all around and the fact that Earth was Unicron was a horrible idea. I am glad this is getting a reboot. Only the first movie was good and the rest kept getting progressively worse.

They need to reboot. How many time can we see a Transformers movie about some kind of ancient robots hidden on Earth, getting revived, destroy cities, and Optimus comes along to save the day?

I liked the movies, not loved them. They didn't do my childhood justice but sometimes something is better than nothing. I hope they reboot them and not make the characters such like racist stereotypes.

I didn't watch the last one, but I wholeheartedly agree with your assessment of the series. I actually quite enjoyed the first one and was surprised the human actors annoyed me as little as they did!

Also, this is still very much worth a read!

"I'm standing directly beneath the enemy's scrotum" is the best way to summarize this film series.

They all sucked. You know what was fucking cool about the animated movie? It was adult as fuck. Robots died. People died. Unicron was scary as hell. The humans were the side show. Transformers are human'd up enough for a human audience to grow attached to this bullshit of making the humans the main characters and not the side show they really are is stupid. They were afraid that kids wouldn't be able to relate to them but some how when we were kids we took to it like the discovery of porn on the internet.

The only thing I even recollect from the first transformers is the amazing sequence shot of megan fox with the car.

And that scrotum is attached to Bay.

But yeah. The first one was an ok action movie with some cool moments. The second and further on should never have existed.

I don't know if they could make it work but I'd love a more G1 look to the bots in a reboot. Someone did this G1 movie mock-up of Devastator years ago and, though it's dated, I still love the look.

Reboot? Well it's not like they could fuck it up any more than Michael Bay has. If you have a friend who loved Transformers as a kid, and has never seen the movies, do them a favor and show them this before they do. That's all they'll need to know.

I'm so glad the consensus here seems to be that these movies were terrible and Michael Bay needs to go away. I've been hoping for a reboot since the credits rolled on the first one.

A reboot is jsut what Trandformers needs, its gotten stale over the course of its current movie lifespan, that and can Hasbro please bring back the toys that actually take more than two steps to transform and nothing spring loaded, the collector's toys are awesome, but I'm not going to go out and buy a collector's edition transformer for my 9 year old
