PS4 Slims Will Have a 1TB Hard Drive in North America Going Foward

Destructoid has the story.

Quote:
500GB of storage space can only get you so far these days, so it's nice to hear that Sony will begin including 1TB hard drives with PlayStation 4 Slim consoles in North America. The system's suggested retail price will remain at $300, and the rollout is expected to take place later this month.

Hopefully we'll see it packed with a game at a lower price soon.

And Sony wanted $600 for the PS3 when it launched. Good to see they brought the price back to reality.

The only way I'd buy another PS4 is if the Pro could be priced a little more attractively. Beyond that, the launch PS4 I've got will continue to suffice.

Price of 300 isn't real they are closer to 250 on sale these days. Snagged one for 240 on Black Friday and 220 is the lowest I've seen

Wait... so the PS4 Pro isn't replacing the PS4 standard? One of the things people like to tout about PC vs Console is that, with Console, devs only have a single piece of hardware to code for rather than multiple ones. I guess that's out the window now? And are we also going to see new versions in the future? The PS4 Gold? PS4 Elite?

What are the advantages of a console again?

No, it's not immediately replacing the PS4 (just as the Scorpio isn't immediately replacing the Xbox One); both companies are shifting to a "platform" style, akin to what we see with Android and iOS devices. Games will work across multiple generations of hardware, but those generations will be released much quicker than we're otherwise used to with consoles.

In other words, that shiny new console you bought this year will be outdated by next year, just like your phone is.

Pro has been worth the purchase. It just feels better, older games that I have played all run better. New games that are optimized well are great in 4k. It has been totally worth it to me. I get that is not for everyone.

At this point I would wait for holiday pricing on the Pro. I am assuming it will get a nice drop to compete with Scorpio being released.

I'd rather see them put in a 128gb SSD for performance gains. 1TB for stockpiling junk, no thx.
