Sean Penn TV Show About Going To Mars Canceled After 1 Season

GameSpot has the story.

Quote:
Streaming network Hulu's TV show The First, which starred Sean Penn as an astronaut trying to go to Mars, has been canceled after one season. Created by House of Cards creator Beau Willimon, The First marked Senn's first time as a regular on a TV show. The Hollywood Reporter was along the news sites to confirm the show's cancellation.

It's just the latest cancellation from Hulu, as the network recently axed comedian Sarah Silverman's show, I Love You, America, also only after one season.

Hulu, like Netflix, does not release viewership figures for its original content, so we don't know how well The First performed. What's clear, however, is that the ratings were not good enough to keep the show going for a second season.

I heard it just wasn’t that good. I loved Handmaiden even though it is a political showcase.

Disney lost $580 million on Hulu last year. If it's not making money, or just costs too much, it's going to get shitcanned from Hulu.

Netflix is bleeding billions from every orifice.

Setting up a streaming service, and creating content which draws and keeps customers, is far more expensive than even regular television.

The numbers boggle the mind. Great for viewers though!

It might have helped if there were any buzz or marketing for the show. I am a pretty big space buff and might have been interested however this is the first time I'm hearing about it.

On the other hand I am not a big Sean Penn fan. I love him for his willingness to put his money and time where his mouth is (he goes and does work wherever he can pitch in at disaster zones, even shit work if necessary) but I also think he has many political screws loose and is totally anti-American.

Same with Danny Glover. Both have gone 'silent' as their commie buddies in Venezuela have taken that nation down the toilet and instituted the greatest mass weight loss program in decades...starvation from properly instituting socialism.

Reporting its Q4 2018 results, Netflix has revealed its revenues grew to $16 billion and concluded the year with 139 million paying memberships.

The streaming giant’s annual revenue grew 35% to $16 billion in 2018 and nearly doubled its operating profits to $1.6 billion, while a record 8.8 million subscribers joined Netflix in the final three months of 2018.
IBC.org.

They spent around $13 Billion to create content in 2018 and brought in $16 Billion in revenue. How are they bleeding billions again?

Not to mention that they just raised their prices from $9 to $13 to offset the costs of content in 2019.

yeah, it is not like you can see their financials right now..

Netflix is doing fine, they may not gain subscribers as fast as they could (but they are still growing), but they are doing really good.

at the end of the day, for every subscriber there must be like 4 other viewers because of account sharing. I pay for the premium with is four screens at 4k and for the price is an amazing service.

Wow. I learned something. I made the mistake of believing the Internet instead of data.

Quote:
Even directors like Christopher Nolan found a way to take on the streaming titan, vowing to never work with the company because its entire existence was a direct insult to how film was meant to be experienced.
I found that searching about this.

So I'm guessing "Hollywood" is upset about losing its control of distribution.
An enemy of my enemy is my friend! We're friends again Netflix.
We may stay that way if you stop cancelling stuff NetFlix.

The goods news is we have rich corporations battling instead of colluding.
The bad news is once someone takes the hill, it's back to colluding again.

That means instead of doing unspeakable things with Harvey Weinstein you'll have to do it with NetFlix's representitive.

The most coveted spot in the industry is where you can make a movie about 2 people in a room talking, and people will pay $$$ to buy it because there's nothing else. And no one else can make content unless they ask you for permission. And critics gush about the "Celebration of Life" and smothering you under gold stars because if they don't they suddenly are found to have been sexually abusing someone, and since they've been "let go" with criminal proceedings their contract is null and void.

My facts may differ in your reality.

Because they are cash flow negative, and are projected to continue to be NEGATIVE on cash flow (more out than in...by billions) for YEARS.

Quote:
Begley added in his report that the prospect of Moody’s upgrading Netflix’s rating again is limited because the company is likely to continue adding to its debt pile to fund its expansion. He expects that Netflix will add “as much as $15 billion of debt” in the next few years.
So, you are left as an investor with the decision: Will Netflix be like Amazon, pouring money out every orifice while growing like crazy and remaining king, or will Netflix go belly up from debt and the loss of syndicated/licensed IP to gigantic competition in the next few years from the likes of Disney and others?

Roll the dice. I say 'bit player' in five years, stock under $100 a share. YMMV, but your numbers are incorrect. They are spending more than they are earning, by billions, and will for years to come.
