Pure Evil - Heroes of the Banned

It took three years, but my Heroes of the Storm account finally got "Silenced" for repeated trash talk. The silencing means that you can't participate in Ranked games and you can't do chat at all, you can only message people on your friends list.

I find it kinda sad because I have seen this shift in the past few years by developers to make their community less toxic, but apart from the occasional "F You" I'm hardly someone who needs to be silenced. I don't do homophobic or racist slurs online and I can't think of a single time where I really went off on someone. I'm a writer, I could certainly think of some creative insults if I wanted to go that direction.

And I don't even use voice chat!

I think that companies have become increasingly sensitive to a vocal minority. If you play any online game with voice chat, It is filled with people just screaming racist language and profanity, but I got banned for repeated use of the F-word? It's like What the Fuck?

I actually saw a discussion on this today. The second you type something you open yourself up to be reported for text chat abuse.

I'm pretty sure just dropping the F-bomb now and then doesn't get you banned or there would be no community left based on my old HotS experience.

You must have been using it egregiously and abusively. Toxic is as toxic does.

Absolutely. He probably said it once to a snowflake millennial who was behaving like an asshole and melted in the face of being called on it.

Not sure how much raging you did for this to happen, hope the first time is a temporary 'silence' but sorta glad this exists

Toxic community is what forced me to leave my last MOBA that i was playing hardcore

If this is your first silence penalty, it'll expire in 24 hours. The duration is doubled with each silence and there is no cap.

So, if this is actually your first silence penalty...quit yer bitching. Assuming this occurred at roughly the time you posted this, you've got a measly 12 hours left. Suck it up.

Systems like this have been implemented because of the communities that formed around DotA/DotA2/LoL/HoN/HotS; they're almost always garbage and filled terrible, screaming man-children.

With instances such as this, I tend to follow the notion that the truth is somewhere in the middle (in most cases). You were probably being a bigger shithead than you're letting on and the folks who reported you may have been a little too sensitive.

The part that cracks me up is the fact that the people complaining about stuff like this often belong to the generation that helped create things like safe spaces while raising the generation they're complaining about.

They're bitching about the mess they created.

Blizzard are especially bad at this. Itís going too far. They have a profanity filter, people need to use it instead of banning people. I use curse words in my daily communications as flowery fucking prose. Oh well. Their bans are usually temporary. Itís shitty that they would ban before replying to claimants that the option of the language filter exists for this reason.

I'd like to meet some of these mythical beings, because nobody I've ever known has required for themselves or their progeny a protective bubble wrap to keep them from stubbing their feelings on the door jamb of life.

Then again, I don't live in a blue state filled with diaper wearing progressives, nor do I live in one of the islands of idiocy we call 'universities' filled with triggered elitists and their weak willed ideological progeny. That explains it.

I feel for you! I remember the last time I trash talked someone and it got me banned. I don't think I've ever used the F word that many times in so many creative ways. That pastor said to not come to any more of his services again.

Yeah, I've been following this site for years, and Evil TOTALLY comes across as someone who would be banned for toxic trash talk. Not surprising at all.

Who do you think implemented things like "Safe Spaces" and "Participation Trophies"? It certainly wasn't the kids as they were growing up.

None of the adults in my community, lol. I think I already indicated who did that: diaper wearing progressives and their weak willed ideological progeny (that's 'the kids,' variously defined by progressives as anyone from birth to the age of around 30 today, lol). We have a few of those around, but not enough to impose their will upon the majority of clear thinking rational adults around here.

Meanwhile I just did a match in CS:GO, first time in a couple years, and got hit with 3 n-bombs. I remembered immediately why I quit. It's like confetti in that game.

Yea CS community has always been like this. That plus all the ego made me quit after I hit LEM. I think it was easiest to handle in lower ranks because their ego wasn't bad. They just were jerks but would listen to positive comms.

Play EVE Online. As long as you don't threaten someone IRL, you can pretty much say whatever you want. Someone upset you in EVE? Stop crying about it and get revenge!

Harden The Fuck Up is what the EVE developers say. Check it out for yourself: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VgvM7av1o1Q

Well the F word is unnecessary and they do want to keep it kid friendly. I attended a hearthstone tournament recently. I'm an old guy who loves games so I played for fun. The winner of the tournament was in jr high school kid. I'm sure regular use of the f word is something she wouldn't want her kid to be bombarded with. It was a clean tournament. I'm sure bliz wants the online environment to be safe for the young folks.
