Torchlight Frontiers Gameplay Reveal Trailer

Quote:
Torchlight Frontiers - Rekindle the Flame in 2019!

Set in the same beloved Torchlight universe from Torchlight I and II, this shared-world action RPG brings back many of the franchise’s signature features and mechanics that captured the hearts of action RPG fans around the world. Led by former Runic Games and Blizzard North co-founder, Max Schaefer, the team developing Torchlight Frontiers is comprised of veteran developers who were responsible for the games that defined the ARPG genre, including the original Diablo and Torchlight franchises.

Torchlight Frontiers combines the heart of the beloved Torchlight series with a shared, persistent and dynamically generated world. In true Torchlight style, players will team up with friends and devoted pets to hack and slack their way through a vibrant world, discover ancient ruins of lost civilizations and brave dungeons filled with riches and dangerous creatures.

Torchlight Frontiers will be available on PC, Xbox One and PlayStation 4.

I, for one, loved the Torchlight games. I remember hearing years ago that there were plans for a Torchlight MMO and that later seemed to fizzle out. Then, I had a hard time keeping up with Max and Erich Schaefer, Travis Baldree, and co. So it looks like Max Schaefer has a new studio and is presumably working with Perfect World once again. I'm definitely intrigued, but curious how this might differ from previous Torchlight titles. To me, they always felt like spiritual successors to Fate, which if memory serves was the brainchild of Baldree primarily. Still, with Max Schaefer's Blizzard/Diablo pedigree, there is certainly cause for optimism.

I loved Torchlight but find it difficult to be excited by this. It's a game i played the better part of a decade ago and this looks exactly the same.

I'm stoked! We're actually still playing diablo 3 co-op on PS4, and every time some po-dunk company puts out some shitty ass diablo clone, we give it a shot, but invariably end up back at diablo. Hopefully Torchlight will have enough depth to keep us busy for a while.

Its hard to beat Diablo but Torchlight is a good game.

I think it really was. A lot of the elements and mechanics from Fate carried over into Torchlight. I picked up Fate years ago when it first released on a whim and loved it. It's why I ended out continuing on to get into the Torchlight games.

I enjoyed the first game tremendously. Then I encountered a game-breaking bug and lost my character and all the time I spent on that toon went down the tubes. It was a real shitty end to my time with that game and turned me off of the franchise big time.

This game honestly looks like a carbon copy of the first one. Progress? Don't see it. Not interested.

Anyone here ever play Mythos? These guys were behind that too. I rather enjoyed it and was disappointed it never progressed into what it could have been.

1997 called they want their shitty graphics and animations back. This looks really awful.

Well I don't think they are going for cutting edge.. considering its a blizz/diablo developer, its not surprising that they want a more cartoony look. Also I've noticed both Torchlight 1/2 run on really really really old machines so maybe they have its toned down to run on older computers.

Either way, not really my cup of tea as from the above post, Path of Exile is my goto for this Isometric RPG gear collecting itch.

Yeah, and if it ever comes to PS4 with couch co-op, we'll be all over it.

Diablo, 1996 (close enough)

Torchlight Frontiers, 2018

While it's not the most visually impressive game on the market, there's a bit of a difference between the new Torchlight and games that were being produced 20 years ago.

Sure looks like it. Torchlight looks worse.
