Yeah, I don't see where this is any better than what we've seen. I don't know shit about the Green Lantern (and just to piss off everyone here I always get him confused with the Green Hornet), but you tell me he can make any thought real and the best thing he can think of is a mini gun?

They're not exactly weak to yellow anymore... the green rings are powered by willpower (embodied by the color green), and their weakness is fear (embodied by the color yellow). The green rings lose power if the bearer succumbs to fear (the power is relative to the user's will), just as the yellow rings gain power by invoking fear. A green lantern who has conquered his fear won't have a problem with yellow objects.

DC really likes the emotional color thing. I've seen it outside the ring stuff with Raven's empathy representing people having the colored aura of whatever emotion they're broadcasting.

If it puts anything into perspective: the 'original' Green Lantern, Alan Scott, is weak against wood. Not wood representing a force or emotion or anything, just wood. Dude's on a power level with Superman, but you could knock him out with a club.

Looks a lot better. Green Lantern is one of my favorite DC characters, barely behind Superman and Batman. The suit still sucks IMHO but I hate the idea of a CGI suit anyway. I would have preferred a physical suit with CGI effects, oh well.

I read a 5 issue Green Lantern story in a friend's house once, and it was pretty much the most confusing thing ever. That's my only knowledge of the comic. It's not very well known in Norway.

That's actually kinda interesting, thanks for the illumination.

That iris color change effect was damn awesome. Surprised I've never seen that before.
Its not that yellow used to make them powerless, exactly...it's just that they couldn't affect anything that was yellow because it would essentially "cancel out" their power.

Okay.
That was the old explanation, practically straight from the books. Laugh at it if you want...it is what it is. Or rather, it was what it was.

No it's fine, it doesn't completely ruin the premise for me Amazingly.

I reeeeally want to see Ryan Reynolds turned into a A-list celeb, so I will see this. I've never seen him do a movie he wasn't great in. Even that recent coffin movie worked.

I for one support the idea of pure CGI movies. Giving photorealism the same flexibility that anime has had for decades now will revolutionize Hollywood.

The problem is that CGI is not photorealistic. Emphasis on the realistic. Current CGI is great at making anmated things that the mind doesn't have an expectation of what real looks like: sci-fi (a spaceship), fantasy (a dragon), etc.

It's when you take CGI and try to make a human face, a dog, a cat, or a bodysuit that it stands out like a sore thumb. CGI is 100% glaring when it attempts the mundane.

It is until it isn't. I remember the first movie I couldn't tell wasn't real from the visuals alone: Starship Troopers. Sure the bugs were impossible, but the CGI was fairly flawless.

My point is that CGI continues its march towards photorealism, and soon even the best of us won't be able to tell any difference.

Try this little test: http://urbanlegends.about.com/library/bl_image_quiz.htm

Just for fun. Obviously it's easier to spot bad moving CGI.

If a Green Lantern accidentally peed on himself, would he die?
