How to get more Apex Coins, Legend Tokens and Crafting Metals

Quote:
With Apex Legends releasing for free on Xbox One, PS4 and PC, it will come as no surprise that the game includes micro-transactions, allowing players to purchase new weapon skins, banners and voice quips.

None of these items provide players with any competitive advantage in the game, but will make your character stand out from the pack with some awesome gear.

The easiest way to get your hands on new items is by buying some Apex Coins, which are available for purchase in the game using real-world money.

Players can spend anywhere from $9.99 up to $99.99 on this currency, which can then be used to buy Apex Packs or specific items found in the in-game store or the Armory.

For players who donít want to spend any cash on the game, Apex Packs can also be unlocked by simply playing the game, as Apex Packs are offered as rewards to players who have levelled up.

Legend Tokens are also awarded to players for reaching the next level, allowing players who earn enough of them to unlock the two locked characters in Apex Legends at release, Caustic and Mirage.

Finally, players can also unlock new items using Crafting Metals. These can be exchanged for weapons skins inside the Armory, but currently the only way to get your hands on them is inside Apex Packs.

Respawn have released the expected drop rate for the rarity level of items that can be found inside them, with players having a 100% chance of finding at least one rare item inside.

For those planning on buying Apex Packs but worried about getting the same item multiple times, Respawn have confirmed that Apex Packs have duplicate protection, meaning that once you have unlocked an item, you wonít receive it from an Apex Pack again.

This entire model of gaming is dumb. I have no interest in playing these types of games. It just cheapens the whole experience and makes gaming feel like a throwaway hobby. Am I just too old-fashioned? Granted, I've had this reaction since Ultima Online was first announced (i.e "don't put this shit in my games")
And I don't think "wow, free, let me check it out", I think "wow, free, another throwaway piece of shit experience not worth of my time".
I want to pay my money up front, get an awesome complete experience, and not have to deal with other people (unless its a separate multiplayer mode) or with monetization. I just HATE where gaming is going with this crap. *Rant Off*

Fine, then get off my lawn, because I'm not going into your free digital candyshop. This is the dope dealer model of gaming. Instead, let me buy the damn candyshop and have the candy for "free".

Edit: Just noticed the design director is a member. That's good. They need to see diverse opinions on this model of gaming so they stop thinking "FREE..... who can resist FREE games?!" ME, that's who.

Edit edit: To be fair, since the director is a member here, I'll probably give it a shot. But there's probably a 1% chance I will enjoy it. Every time I launch Fortnite to see what all the fuss is about I feel like a metalhead at a Justin Timberlake convention.

I've told my son if I find him paying actual money for skins I'll shut him out of his bank account.

(Technically I can't as he's 18 and all...but fuck it - when he's living under my roof, he can't play that adult card on me)

I agree ElektroDragon. I don't like coming into any entertainment experience knowing that I'm missing out on the whole picture. But at the same time, I'm reluctant to pay to get the whole experience when the final cost is open ended. I'd much rather pay up front because otherwise, it's not in the dev's best interest to leave me satisfied unless I'm handing over the maximum amount of cash. World of Warcraft was just about doable for a while but I've since tried to get into games like ESO and which are more "buy to play with microtransactions" and I just can't do it for some reason. Once I start seeing that "yeah I may have some fun but I'll be frustrated unless I fork over cash for more bag space and then more cash for the better horse and then more cash for the bigger bank vault etc. It makes me take a game that I might have enjoyed and just not even want to start playing in the first place. Maybe this is just an older person's perspective. I have money to spend on games but I don't have a ton of time to play them. So "free to play" doesn't really mean a lot to me since the game still costs me a precious resource.

Well said Chief, and I think you're right, the older generation also tends to more often than not be more careful with spending habits and are generally also more economically sound to begin with. The only F2P game I've put any money into was MWO and it was worth it for me considering I played it for years and got my money's worth and then some. I doubt I would ever do so again however, I actually cringe at how much I spent in MWO despite enjoying pretty much every second of it quite a lot. Yet I wasn't playing anything else at the time so I guess it evens out in the grand scheme.

Aren't those just skins not actual full on weapons you start with that are a one up over other players?

I can't think of anything more cash conscious than a f2p game with cosmetic MTX and everything attainable in game.

Let addicts pay for development and you never have to pay for new content.

You'll never get your one time purchase model back because you'll never get dedicated servers back.

Servers, infrastructure, and updates cost money.
I prefer the current model just because I know the game is getting regular updates and the servers will be dependable.
I just avoid games with garbage dev cycles (PUBG) and shitty servers.

Stop living in the past, whiny gaming dinosaurs of days of yore. Get over it, get used to it, you're not the market's focal point or sweet spot or future.

Look at it this way, using casinos as an example: the problem isn't that slot machines exist, it's that they can exist in your pocket and, in gaming terms, never pay back out nearly what you can pay in.

Previous generations still hang at casinos on slot machines, despite everything we know today about them. It is their, uh, hobby?

I have no problem with cosmetic micro transactions in the same way people don't have a problem buying designer clothes or pieces of art to hang on the wall, even if the completionist from my 20s who loves closed systems of entertainment will cry at never getting "everything."

I don't give a shit if they get rich. A F2P game that doesn't charge for gameplay advantage is a GENIUS and AWESOME means of disseminating games to more and more people.

Let those who need their shiny cosmetics buy them. I don't begrudge them their spending as they see fit, and neither should you, you cranky ass fascist.

That would be great if they were only putting this shit in F2P games, the issue is they're not. There in lies the issue when they want 60 dollars up front and then they want to charge you for microtransactions as well.

I thought it was pretty funny that for total war 40k they made you pay to have real blood in the game
