Steam says I already own this game, but I didn't purchase it. Anyone else?

If you have a Valve Index you get it for free.

I don't own any VR headset, yet.

I think I may know what happened (just a theory). Years ago I applied for a job at Valve. Made it through 4 or 5 rounds of interviews and went to the Bellevue office to spend a day as the final stage of the process, touring the offices and doing panel interviews. I didn't end up getting the job, but they gave me a code for every Valve game at the time. I'm wondering if that code was for all future games as well. I think it's the same code all of the employees/families get. /shrug

Hard pass. I'd like some of my fondest gaming memories NOT destroyed. Also, I don't have/want VR.

Hmm, the graphics kinda look like they haven't changed since HL2? I'm tempted, I mean I loved HL2 as much as the next person, but it seems like a steep price for one game and a collection of what look like phone games.

I'm not sold on VR, doesn't seem quite there yet...?

Valve: Hey guys! Remember that game we made 15 years ago with the story that ended in a cliffhanger that didn't go anywhere? Well we made a prequel so you can see what happened before we stopped giving a fuck about finishing the story! Oh and you have to buy some extra shit to play it and maybe upgrade your PC but hey Half-Life fo life amirite?

Bummer this isn't on PSVR...because I've already got one VR system. Not going to buy another just to play this game...

HL2 made me realize that the only things I enjoyed about Half-Life were the plethora of fantastic mods. I spent far more time with mods than I ever did with any of Valve's content.

I never played the mods much but I loved the atmosphere and execution of both HL games. They felt like big production movies to me. Now I don't think any HL3 will be as good as people would expect and they should probably not make it just because of that. But it doesn't change the fact that I absolutely loved HL 1 and 2.

I hope Alyx give a boost to VR games, but at this point I think the HL well has been poisoned by Valve's pitiful neglect of the IP since the end of HL2.

Alyx will be used either as a moratorium on HL or VR or both ("If not even Half Life and Valve can make VR good then who can?!" "Well, Valve lost it long ago, Artefact anyone?" "Yeah, but NO ONE has made VR good so I guess not even HL can save that.")

A VR rig is alot of money for one game, I have a friend i can possibly borrow one for a while. Yet there are so many non VR games to play, i would get better use investing in a new sim racing wheel wheel from fanatec than a VR rig, at least the wheel is supported by many games!

The Oculus Quest is pretty reasonable, comparatively speaking and there are a ton of games that work with it. Plus it is totally wireless.

It even has higher resolution than the Rift S, though the portable form factor comes with it's own problems (limited memory, not all games supported, etc. always on backorder).

Even better if you want a higher end experience you can plug the Quest into your PC with a link cable and go to it.
