Okay, sure. Allow me to rephrase: School shootings really entered our cultural zeitgeist back in 1999 and media - such as movies, games, music, and books - doesn't really have a significant impact on any of it.

Media follows the ratings. Americans love blood and guts. And sex. Do you remember what the big obsession was right before Columbine? I'll give you a hint: it was even more meaningless to the average person but everyone talked about it constantly.

Well, what's interesting is that the first cultural "school shooting" would probably be the sniper in the Bell Tower at University of Texas. That was a national event that scarred and entire generation and here in Texas, many people of that age bracket talk about it frequently. The thing is, at the time, it seemed like an isolated event.

The Columbine shooting was the first school shooting that started off the unbroken chain of shootings that we see on a regular basis, now. And, arguably, what makes it different is that it was the first school shooting that caused people to look for things to blame rather than just "crazy man with a gun".

I feel like we have to reject the idea that there aren't causes for gun violence. We just don't know what it is yet. It could very well be violent media for all we know. We just can't prove it. And it's possible that we can't prove it because proving it is impossible. There are some questions that science isn't built to answer. The literal use of the word "cause" is partly why it's so problematic. For one thing to scientifically cause something else to happen, it has to pass a series of tests that are nearly impossible to pass. For instance, after The Matrix came out, it was common to see guys walking around in black trench coats. Nobody would argue that the movie didn't influence that trend. But to say that the move CAUSED those men to buy Trenchcoats is almost completely unprovable.

Glad to see I'm not the only one who picked up multiple copies of this game.

Originally bought 2 copies for 360, and resold the Collector's Edition, kept the standard version. Then bought it for PS4, and finally for PC. I enjoyed the game quite a bit.
