Stephen Hawking Travels to a New Dimension After 76 Years

According to the BBC (and pretty much whatever news source you choose) Stephen Hawking passed on today, dying at the age of 76.

Quote:
As a teenager he had enjoyed horse-riding and rowing but while at Cambridge he was diagnosed with a form of motor neurone disease which was to leave him almost completely paralysed.

As he was preparing to marry his first wife, Jane, in 1964 his doctors gave him no more than two or three years of life.

But the disease progressed more slowly than expected. The couple had three children, and in 1988 - although Hawking was by now only able to speak with a voice synthesiser following a tracheotomy - he had completed A Brief History of Time - a layman's guide to cosmology.

It sold more than 10 million copies, although its author was aware that it was dubbed "the most popular book never read".
Not games related but Hawking is one of a kind.
He wasn't perfect by any stretch, and he was even wrong now and then, but he was one of of those who helped moved the human race forward.

Simply sad, but given his dicease, he lived a long and prosperous life.

If there is life after death I hope he can travel to those black holes and have front row tickets to see the hawking radiation first hand.

It inspired and humbled me to know that someone afflicted with such a terrible disability could still push on. How can you not be impressed with all the discoveries and contributions he made considering he was bound to a wheelchair and barely able to move? It was decades before he had even the slightest gizmos and gadgets to make life easier but he still pressed on.

All that and he still had a wife and kids. He was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom, the title of Commander of the British Empire, a member of the Order of the Companions of Honor (much more exclusive than a knighthood or CBE). He supposedly turned DOWN a Knighthood years before accepting his CBE to protest the state of science education funding in the UK at the time.

The only reason he didn't win a Nobel was because his work was all theoretical and Nobel Prizes can only be awarded to science that contains an observable outcome.

Yes, he had an affair and he made a lot of assumptions of what is and isn't settled science but he had a singular mind which will go down in history next to the likes of Newton, Gallello, Einstein, Curie, Copernicus, Pascal, and the rest of the greats of physics and astronomy.

Nope, not according to him.

Amazing intellect, broken body. I wonder if his intellect would have been as amazing if he had not felt the pressure of imminent disability and death from early on? He was given two years to live nearly five decades ago. Remarkable life. RIP.

Hawking also was an fearless advocate for human rights, including advocating boycott for the sake of Palestinian equality against Israeli Apartheid.

LOL! Tell you what, start with the least free Middle Eastern nation and work your way up the list to the most free nation. We'll hit all of them eventually, starting with the worst, lol. Lebanon. You've got some work ahead of you!

Freedom in the Middle East.

INDEX OF POLITICAL FREEDOM, Most (8.2) to least (2.05) free:
Israel: 8.20
Lebanon: 6.55
Morocco: 5.20
Iraq: 5.05
Palestine: 5.05
Kuwait: 4.90
Tunisia: 4.60
Jordan: 4.45
Qatar: 4.45
Egypt: 4.30
Sudan: 4.30
Yemen: 4.30
Algeria: 4.15
Oman: 4.00
Bahrain: 3.85
Iran: 3.85
UAE: 3.70
Saudi Arabia: 2.80
Syria: 2.80
Libya: 2.05

Or with this year's ranking (Israel is 79...best in the Middle East) right here.

Start with the lowest (Syria on this year's ranking) and work your way up. Lots of work before you hit Israel (the most free). Good luck in your unbigoted, unbiased quest for freedom!

Misdirection.

We already sanction those countries when they commit atrocities.

We actively FUND Israeli displacement of indigenous Palestinian Christians/Muslims even though Israel has no"right"to do it just because they're"wrong"religion. Using Apartheid, torture, child detention, land theft, water theft, etc, to harass the natives into leaving, funded by US taxpayer is wrong.

Peaceful boycott and isolation will only worsen for Israel s long as it continues to behave like an Apartheid settler-colony.

Hawking saw it. And acted appropriately. Not a bigot but a man of conscience he.

Or, just, you know...be an anti-Semitic bigot.

Just ridiculous how you call people bigots and antisemitic just to stifle discussion.

Israel STILL has NO "right" to displace indigenous Palestinian Christians/Muslims just because they're "wrong" religion. Using Apartheid, Child detention, land that, water theft, destruction of crops, indefinite arrest without lawyer/charge, etc, funded by the BILLIONS annually by US taxpayer, shielded by US UN veto, is WRONG.

And, once again, Hawking saw it which is why he participated in peaceful boycott against it. And once again, no bigot nor antisemite he.

No, not at all. Let's discuss starting with the worst abusers of human rights in the Middle East and get through the WHOLE LIST!

So, do we start with Syria or Lebanon? Depends on which year's list we choose. You pick.
