Beamdog, a Canadian developer founded by ex-Bioware staff, has announced that they will be releasing an enhanced edition of PC RPG classic, Neverwinter Nights for release

The studio has been known for working on Infinity Engine games such as Baldur's Gate through Icewind Dale, and recently released Planescape Torment, as enhanced editions meant for modern systems. Neverwinter Nights is their first foray into Aurora Engine titles. Here is a listing of what the enhanced edition offers:
  • Improved Display: Your portrait, combat bar, inventory, and other UI elements adjust in size based on your chosen resolution including 1080p and 4k.
  • Advanced Graphics Options: Pixel shaders and post-processing effects make for crisper, cleaner visuals. Enable contrast, vibrance, and depth of field options as preferred.
  • Community Endorsed: Original developers have teamed with key members of the Neverwinter Nights community to curate important fan-requested improvements to support players, storytellers, and modders.
  • Backwards Compatibility: Works with save games, modules, and mods from the original Neverwinter Nights. A galaxy of community created content awaits.

I was just looking at my copy of Neverwinter Nights Diamond when I was dusting yesterday. An enhanced digital version sounds good to me.

Sounds good! I believe I nuked my saves many moons ago, but I'd start from scratch. I believe there's a console command cheat in this one as well, if I remember correctly, and I'm not above dipping into that on occasion.

Bring it on!

I sank way to many hours into this gem, and this is a good enough reason to go back for me.

Hated this game at release except for the editing tools and how approachable the Bioware devs were at the time. One of them helped me through completion of a Hexen episode 1 TC. Scripting was a nightmare and I have no idea what happened to the demo I released on their forums so many years ago. I vaguely remember a small team trying a similar project for NWN2.

Sweet. I remember thinking the ui was clunky. Hope they can improve that.

Can you zoom in? Because games would be much better if you weren't controlling a single character FROM SPACE.

You could always zoom in, even to FPS mode. However, the laughable draw distance and poor textures really don't make it a very enjoyable experience.

This game suffers from early 2000's 3D jank, and the first campaign was basically a showcase of what you could create in the editor and largely forgettable (the other 2 were much better). And who knows where the custom content lives now, forums and mod db sites from the pre-youtube era. I appreciate the effort for modern resolutions and UI scaling even if I don't myself want to jump back in.

Jesus Christ, how many times can they remake this game? I swear I have like 6 versions of it.

If they are going to do it I'd rather they did it Shadows of Colossus style and totally revamped it for the modern age. That would be a worthy effort.

The only good thing about NWN was the user created campaign by this one dude that i can't remember but it crapped all over what the main team did. Cuz it was actually fun.

Shame on you. Michael Bay is just one cut off ear away from being considered a genius in the artform.

So he'll never be a genius then...too bad!

I mean, you don't expect him to lop off an ear, do you?

I believe you are conflating it with Baldur's Gate. It's never been remade. Just re-packaged in Diamond, Gold, Platinum editions etc.
