Justice League Crashes the Top of the Weekend Boxoffice Chart

Only in the modern era of superhero films could a $96 million opening weekend be considered anything less than impressive. But that's the situation Warner Bros. and DC's Justice League find themselves in.

Here is the Weekend Boxoffice Chart for the weekend of November 17th to November 19th, 2017.
  1. Justice League $96.0/$96.0
  2. Wonder $27.0/$27.0
  3. Thor: Ragnarok $21.7/$247.3
  4. Daddy's Home 2 $14.8/$50.5
  5. Murder on the Orient Express $13.8/$51.7
  6. The Star $10.0/$10.0
  7. A Bad Moms Christmas $6.8/$50.9
  8. Lady Bird $2.5/$4.7
  9. Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri $1.1/$1.5
  10. Jigsaw $1.0/$36.4
  11. Blade Runner 2049 $.600/$89.2
  12. Tyler Perry's Boo 2! A Madea Halloween $.485/$46.6

I really liked Justice League, I'm looking forward to more. Now just change the actor of the Joker, give us a younger Batman, give us a batgirl and catwoman, and then we can go from there. Maybe a badass Croc that is huge.

Worst opening for a DC universe movie. It ain't getting my money. Not interested until Snyder is off this.

I had time to catch a movie this past weekend and faced a decision at the theater, Thor or Justice League, I chose Thor. The whole queue of people in front of me all bought tickets for Thor as well even though Justice League is the fresh new movie. Marvel just has the market locked down.

JL is a well done, entertaining movie, but clearly it is doomed, DOOMED! lol, go see it. It's a fun film.

AMAZING! That must be why Thor did $21.7 mil and Justice League did $94 mil (edit: $96 mil!)!

The movie poster alone would make me not want to go see Justice League.

Thor is in its third (or fourth?) week. Warner had expected $140 million for Justice League's opening. A day earlier they revised it down to $110 million. Thor Ragnarok opened at $116 million. Marvel's second string superhero outperformed DC's A-listers. Think about that. This was supposed to be their Avengers and instead will be remembered as the lowest opening out of all the DCEU movies, and the most expensive.

While I find the logo-heavy text annoying, I actually like the artwork. If anything was ever an Alex-Ross homage, this poster is it.

JL has great action, good characters and overall it's funny. It's not Thor funny but it's still funny. Flash runs away with most of his scenes too.

We didn't get out to see it on Saturday, so I spent the day playing Star Wars Battlefront II. My current plan is to go see it this coming Saturday. Should have the theater pretty much to ourselves.

Saw Thor last saturday..

I was impressed, it was funnier than expected and very well done. I think it is the better of the 3 thor movies.

I totally agree. The text looks like an internet meme created by a teenager. And it's tryign to play off the idea that the logos are iconic, but only three of them are, and the Batman logo to too warped to be recognizable as the iconic logo.

I agree that the tip of the hat to Alex Ross is cool, but that's a deep cut that only ULTRA nerds would get. Without that point of reference, it's just weird Rembrant lighting on the actors which gives them a garish appearance. It doesn't look inviting, it look slightly off-putting. Which is in keeping with the weird and horrific color palettes that all the DC movies have used. I'm hesitant to use the word "ugly" because few things that peopel call ugly truely are, but large portions of BvS was shot with sickly green lighting that was actually ugly and repulsive to me.

If there's one color on the palette that is a "no-zone" it's yellow-green because of it's association to sickness and bacteria. I have NO idea why they chose to grade it this way.

It seems it did ok in 'foreign' gross. Just about 10% less than Avengers AoU. and it seems a few countries didn't report it yet.

It seems tomatoes carry a little weight, but not as far reaching as you might think

Seeing a lot of people (fans, journalists, etc.) pointing to China as Justice League's savior without realizing studios get a smaller take from that region than anywhere else in the world. For every dollar made Warner sees pennies.

That is true, but with the increased Chinese investment in the film production (producing, location shooting, talent, etc), having good numbers for the film in China helps reduce the overall production costs that Warner Brothers has to cover for future DC films. So a return of investment comes in the form of reduced production liabilities in the future, rather than recouping the costs of previous productions.
