Netflix developing Resident Evil TV series

Quote:
ĎResident Evilí TV Series in Works at Netflix

EXCLUSIVE: Resident Evil is headed to television. I have learned that Netflix is developing a scripted series based on the hit action horror franchise. I hear the series will be a Netflix global original. German production and distribution company Constantin Film, which is behind the Resident Evil movies loosely based on the Capcom video game series, is the studio. Search is underway for a showrunner to shepherd the adaptation.

No one is commenting but I hear the plan is for the series to expand the Resident Evil universe and deepen the exiting mythology. I hear the series will keep the basic premise, which also served as a setup for the movie franchise. The drama series will explore the dark inner workings of the Umbrella Corporation and the new world order caused by the outbreak of the T-virus. While the project is in early stages, the series is expected to incorporate all of Resident Evilís signature elements, including action sequences and ďeaster eggs.Ē

As long as she can't walk while firing a gun. You know, emulate the actual game. /s

I think the movies and the games did enough to this universe.

I am not sure what stories there are to be told that wouldn't devolve into generic zombie-type survival material. I enjoy the movies for what they are, but I'm not sure a series would do anything original.

Why do marketers keep referring to the history of games as "mythology?"

It's not uncommon to refer to that sort of stuff as the "mythology" of the series. The X-Files is probably the best example of this label off the top of my head.

I commend your taste in women, especially since she knows how to hold the gun properly without putting the finger on the trigger unless she's ready to fire.

I hope they set it in the 90's.

Netflix just dropped the first season of The Kingdom, a Korean (???) zombie series set in Medieval times? I’m afraid that I’m not up on the history of the region, but the costumes are just amazing. The acting isn’t bad, but the English voice over can be a little funny at times.

Good stuff.

If Netflix is smart they'll try to involve Julia Voth. Like you once involved her, apparently.

It kinda needs to be. I'm glad the RE2 remake kept everything in the 90's, at least.

I'm okay with a RE TV series, I think. The story from the first three games is pretty good (as far as zombies and video games are concerned, at least). If they keep things a little closer to the source material instead of going completely off the rails like the movies did, I could see it turning into a decent series.

Thanks for pointing this out. I enjoyed the first episode. I'm watching with subtitles so far since, as you mentioned, English voice overs are usually a bit awkward. But the subtitles are pretty fast at times so it's not always easy to keep up.

I was binging on it last night and fell asleep with it on. Interesting dreams.

Also, having lived there I enjoyed the set pieces and costume design. Really well done stuff.
