Destiny 2 Community Strikes Back, Forums Flooded With "Remove Eververse" Threads

Some Destiny 2 players don't much care for the game's premium marketplace. They let it be known by staging a revolt on Christmas day, when the forums were left unattended by moderators. MP1st has the story.

Quote:
Itís Christmas Day (Merry Christmas, yíall!) and the Destiny 2 official forums are in a state of chaos! The site is being flooded with posts demanding the gameís Eververse system be removed, and there doesnít seem to be any moderators online to stop it.

...

The most recent Destiny 2 controversy surrounds the gameís premium marketplace, which has been loaded up with new items that encourage players to pay on top of the base game and season pass prices.

Many players feel this is a little too greedy of Activision/Bungie, and are now voicing their opinions on the gameís official forums, a place normally heavily moderated (when itís not Christmas!).

It's Activision, did they expect anything else?? It is a fun game with friends, but it does get boring very quick solo. Mission, kill bad guys, collect loot ... rinse, repeat. It's a great side game, but not my main go to title at the moment.

I keep playing it for the same reason I can play a Musou for hours on end: It is a power trip. I love just absolutely wreaking havok during PVE events and Heroic Strikes. It is pretty damned cathartic to just turn off the brain for a while and just watch shit explode and die all over the place.

A winning formula. Spend millions building an intellectual property and game engine to hook users and keep them engaged, then spend pennies to create art assets with slightly tweaked stats and cash in on fandom.

I think what's changed is that the cachet certain enterprises like World of Warcraft and other companies were able to build in the early days before invasive RMT is no longer there before the cash grab. Companies are trying to get right to the goods; no place is this more apparent than on mobile games, where premium currencies and cash shops are a given.

It would be like how Marvel spent considerable time building up its expanded universe of films before going into Avengers versus DC trying to get Avengers money but without the requisite setup.

Yes, shaders, "different" vehicles with slightly different attributes like summoning speed and so on like they have in Destiny take half a second (if that) to create. Then they charge a bunch for them.

And even worse they no longer let shaders be a one time purchase which is ultra abusive IMO. It costs them virtually nothing but that's not good enough.

In itself this is not a problem. What becomes a problem is that you are likely to be switching out gear fairly frequently and there is no way to guarantee a shader will drop without paying an obscene amount of money for it when it shows up on the Eververse lineup. MMOs have allowed dying of gear for ages, and they charge normal, in-game currency prices, with rare dyes costing a good amount of coin, while standard ones being pretty damned inexpensive. They never felt preditory because any gamer could get the dyes they wanted if they were willing to put in the time and effort to collect them.

Eververse is the complete opposite. There is no way to pay for her shit unless you pay money for dust. Even if you get dust from leveling, it is usually just 200 to 1000, and anything worth buying is going to be 2000+. So you are forced to pay real world money for any exclusives or guaranteed products she is peddling.

I used to like strikes but now they are too long and not enough of them.

This depends on the Strikes and if anyone actually wants to kill everything. Most of the Strikes can be done in 10 minutes if everyone agrees to do the bare minimum required to complete the tasks (ex. Endless Forest runs are often the fastest because you just run past all the combat). The longest is that damned Strike on Nessus where the final Fallen boss has like 8 cycles. It is a slog getting to him and a slog fighting him. But even then, it is a 15-18 minutes Strike.

Given the choice between a heroic strike and a heroic adventure when farming the Prophesy drops, I'll take the strikes every time.

Also, the Eververse stuff really make no difference in my character's performance. So, I couldn't care less about any "cost".

I found out they tried to defend one-time-use shaders:

Shaders are earned through gameplay: leveling, chests, engrams, vendors. We expect youíll be flush w/ Shaders as you continue to play. (1/4)

When you reach level 20, Shaders will drop more often: vendor rewards, destination play and endgame activities. (2/4)

Shaders are now an ongoing reward for playing. Customization will inspire gameplay. Each planet has unique armor and Shader rewards. (3/4)

With D2, we want statements like "I want to run the Raid, Trials, or go back to Titan to get more of its Shader" to be possible. (4/4)
Basically, "shut up and grind."

I'm pretty much the same, in that I don't care much about the Eververse stuff. I have over 3k dust as a result of leveling and have only spent a little on some shaders maybe. That said, I am also a firm believer in the "give them an inch..." proverb. Let them get away with this, and eventually they will get to something I do care about.

And now they have the first expansion which puts some game-play modes behind a paywall. Not new content that they had to come up with, but basically what amounts to difficulty levels. Like heroic strikes. They are literally selling only a portion of the full game as a full price AAA title, and then releasing various parts of it piecemeal as "$DLC".

If anyone is unfamiliar with this debacle, Sid Alpha does a pretty good summary:

I think this just a clear sign the player base is so freaking bored and the only thing where they don't have everything is the cosmetics that is behind a pay gate which is fine but because there's nothing to do they have to bitch about it.

Basically, expansion sucked, bored already, how about more content because even though destiny 2 is a MULTIPLAYER GAME. It sure doesn't have the content of a FULL GAME.

I don't know what the hell anyone sees in this game. I played it and I found it derivative, uninspired, and boring as hell. So boring.

/uninstalled.

I got enough out of it where I don't want to play another Destiny game or dip my brain into Bungie mythos again. However, the game's core gameplay loop and mechanics are rock solid, which is what kept me going. The game is smooooooth.

This is Activision's franchise to kill. People like it. They want to play it. Instead of taking advantage of that fact to milk your fans, take care of them.

Long ball dumbasses, long ball. Plus, the good will that you get.

I have a feeling this is reaching a breaking point. People are over these micro transactions.
