Kingpin: Reloaded Announced for PS4, Xbox One, Switch and PC

Quote:
In a stylized noir art deco gangland that never was, the Kingpin rules above all else with a bloody fist. When his lieutenant Nikki Blanco leaves a no-name Thug battered and broken, the upstart criminal rises from a puddle of blood, lead pipe in hand and revenge in mind.

Kingpin: Reloaded brings new life to the Quake II engine classic. 4K resolution, ultrawide support, and improved graphics in Enhanced mode enable the beautifully-depicted metropolitan nightmare shine. Controller support makes the game more accessible for anyone who wants to explore the depths of Kingpin’s depravity. Overall improvements like new quest and conversation systems make Reloaded even better than the original.

Stalk lamp-lit streets and take down rival gangs to let the Kingpin know his end is nigh. Kingpin’s immersive sim elements allow the Thug to recruit other gangsters with a conversation system. Increase the Thug’s influence through multiple hub-based missions. Run with the gang on a violent warpath with upgradeable weapons including Tommy guns, bazookas, and more. Location-based damage leads to bloody, thrilling battles: kneecap, maim, or go for the head.

If that sounds too extreme, try No Violence mode. However, the “colorful” language proudly used by Kingpin’s gangsters remains. Lean even further into that era and start fragging in Gang Bang mode’s old-school multiplayer.

Key Features

Kingpin: Reloaded includes a range of new features:

• Re-balanced and polished gameplay.

• New quest system.

• Ultrawide and 4K support.

• Classic and Enhanced modes.

And so much more!
I'm still waiting for someone to port Quake to the PS4.

It was ahead of its time in a lot of ways, but that is to say 1999 -> 2003.

And by reloaded they mean we made it compatible on modern OS'es. I forgot how terrible visuals wise this game was even back then.

This is a case of "How little money do we need to spend to ship this turd and how much will we make?"

I think the dying Interplay said the same thing when they originally shipped it.

Because the name 3D Realms isn't synonymous with "Well..let's see what this has left in it." enough yet.

I don't know anybody who was asking for this. Hell, I forgot this game was made.

I tried replaying this game a few years back and holy shit was it difficult. It felt extremely unfair difficulty wise. I had fond memories playing it way back when but replaying it was a bit of a letdown. I'll pass on this one.

I got excited when I saw the story, I remember having fun with this... but that video reminded me how terrible the graphics were. I was waiting for the "reloaded" graphics before realising this WAS the reloaded graphics.

When I read the post title I was like "Cool, Disney+ is going to bring back Daredevil and the Kingpen storyline!"

I am disappoint.

I am surprised that they aren't remodeling and retexturing this. But by not doing that they will be very unlucky to not turn a profit.

If I remember right without looking it up, I believe this was around the time Interplay was circling the drain and they were churning out one bad PC title after another. Even for it's time the visuals in this were terrible.

Lead pipes as your melee weapon, people that look like walking thumbs/toes with faces like a pile of polyps and turds... with swearz(tm)

yup.. this game was ugly then, and its super ugly now.

wow, this was unexpected!

We played Kingpin in LAN events for a long time. It had a really fun 4v4 mode where you had to loot the other teams safe and try 'n deposit as much cash in yours as possible. Good times =)

Same. It was a neat title for the time period and a lot of the developers were EvAv readers back then.

Good times.

First FPS with properly high-res chain-linked fences! WooHoo! Interplay didn't do much else than publish this I'm sure, they were never very hands-on with developer Xatrix (Redneck Rampage, Quake II: The Reckoning) afaik.

Kingpin was first to do the last-man-standing thing in MP too, which I guess we today call Battle Royale? Never liked the analy retentive dismemberment mechanics, but for an injection of culture, it kinda heralds San Andreas in feel - with its (admittedly limited) soundtrack.

If the AI programmers that coded this had been on the Daikatana team, I'm sure that'd been released a year earlier - the enemies/side-kicks were pretty damn good at maneuvering that convoluted early-days 3D geometry, moreso than Half Life 2.

Oh well - impressed me back then anyways. I'll be keeping an eye on how this develops.
