Fortnite and PUBG Led to Rocketing Headset Sales, Turtle Beach Says

Variety has the story.

Quote:
While battle royale games like “Fortnite” and “PUBG” continue to court their own successes, it appears the sheer magnitude of players they draw is having a halo effect on headphone sales. Or at least that’s what the head of Turtle Beach tells Variety.

“The business is doing really, really well and what’s driving that — beyond our strategy and being a good quality product — is the ‘Fortnite,’ ‘PUBG,’ and battle royale craze, which has introduced a bunch of new people into games,” said Turtle Beach CEO Juergen Stark.

Turtle Beach, which accounts for nearly 46% of the gaming headset market share, saw a 185% increase in net revenue over the same period last year, according to its first-quarter earnings report released this week. The company was selling so many headsets, Stark said, that it will be spending more than $4 million this quarter on air-freighting new stock into the country.

“We have pulled out all of the stops to catch up our supply,” he said.

The spike in second-quarter sales led the company to increase its forecast for both the next quarter and the year significantly. The news also more than doubled the company’s stock on Wednesday.

HaHa! That's so cool. Streaming Fortnite is huge for the kids right now. I couldn't get my son into the game. He loves the indie stuff more and he is a big fan of the old Gamecube games.

I just don't get the Battle Royale thing myself, I find it kinda dull.

My son loves Fortnite, and yes...we do have an expensive new headset that he uses for the game.*

* Which we got from my big-spending brother who didn't want to wait for it to get in stock and ordered a different one, then got this one, sent it to us because the other one was even better, and...well, he's a trip, lol.

I asked a friend at Epic to see if she could rustle up a nice birthday card signed by some folks on the Fortnite team for the 10th birthday the son of one of my buddies. The kid (and all his friends) are HUGE fortnite fans. She decided to send off a gift package with some rare Fortnite Dev team t-shirts and a Fortnite baseball cap to the kid.

Apparently he is now basically a rockstar at his school for his "connections" to Epic and Fortnite.

Fortnite is a cultural phenomena we haven't seen the likes of since Minecraft.

*New and Improved - Headphones with Extreme Fidelity so you can hear all the variants of "fuck your mother" with exceptional clarity!

Fortnite is okay, I guess. Not my thing, but I'm glad its popular.
