Weekend Headbanger - What are you listening to?

Nice weather here this weekend. I'm going to pop some headphones on, and get some work done around the house.

It's the weekend. What are you listening to?

Listening to Siamese Dream on my Fostex Purplehearts. Alternating in the HD650s when I've got to be able to hear the kids.

Was listening to the new all female tribute album to Tom Waits (Come up to the House) and heard this phenomenal cover of Georgia Lee by Phoebe Bridges. It's about a 12 year old girl who was murdered near his house and her story was ignored by the media and law enforcement. He was going to leave it off the album, but his daughter convinced him to include it, saying "Gee, that would really be sad - she gets killed and not remembered and somebody writes a song about it and doesn't put it on the record" He put it on there and it's one of his most emotional songs.

It got me thinking about other notable female covers of his songs. The Norah Jones cover is from her second album and is arguably the best song on it. The Tori Amos cover is from the first Letterman show back after 9/11. Not sure if you remember, but after the attacks they ran reruns of the late night talk shows because no one was up for trying to be light and entertaining at the time. This was his first show back and Tori made a special effort to be there. You can see a visibly moved Lettermen trying to hold it together to get to commercial break at the end. This version still brings me to tears, instantly bringing me back to that time and place.
