Jennifer Lawrence Gets the Nom for a Razzie Award

Quote:
Academy Award winner Jennifer Lawrence has hit another career milestone today: her first Razzie nomination.

Yes, the nominations are in for the 38th Golden Raspberry Awards, a ceremony that honours the very worst that the film industry had to offer in 2017, and J-Law has earned a nod in the Worst Actress category for her work in Darren Aronofsky's intense psychological thriller mother!.

So, er, congrats Jen?

Jennifer will be going up against the likes of Katherine Heigl, Emma Watson and Tyler Perry for the Worse Actress award, while director Aronofsky and her co-star Javier Bardem also got nominated for their work on the film (although, to be fair, Bardem's Worst Supporting Actor nod also comes for Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales too).

Still, only three nominations for mother! isn't too bad, as Transformers: The Last Knight leads the nominations with nods in nine categories, while Fifty Shades Darker isn't too far behind with eight nominations.

Both Transformers and Fifty Shades will go head-to-head in the Worst Picture category, facing competition from The Emoji Movie, Baywatch and The Mummy too.
DigitalSpy

I do think mother! was the worst film I saw last year, it's just straight terrible right across the board.

This was such a strange movie. I am still not entirely sure what it was about...

Can we post spoilers here?

I have zero interest in this movie. I also don't care much for Jennifer Lawrence. I keep hearing that she's an amazing actress, but I have not seen any examples of that so far. The X-Men series certainly did not showcase her supposed talents... my god, she was so terrible in those movies.

Check out : Winter's Bone and Silver Linings Playbook. Both excellent examples of Jennifer Lawrence what she can do in a real movie and not just an action film.

I liked Fifty Shades Darker. So far this series is good. My wife read the books so I go with her. It was well made etc. Could it be the subject matter?

I don't see why not, there isn't much to spoil.

I thought the acting of the entire movie was weird, lawrence is doing one thing everyone else something else and I guess that was the point, but it just didn't work.

It was basically one big ol' biblical allegory, more or less.

Jennifer Lawrence's character was essentially Earth, Javier Bardem's character was God/creator figure, Ed Harris and Michelle Pfeiffer were Adam and Eve, their sons were Cain and Abel, etc. Much of the violence was about how destructive humanity is to the planet and the burning of the house is effectively the destruction of the planet/end times...which then cycles back to the beginning.

At its core, Mother! is pretty much your standard Aronofsky weirdness.

She's talentless trailer park trash, and while I like the folks in trailer parks, I don't like the trash.

It's pretty much supposed to be Jesus.

I'm not making this up; the biblical allegory was completely, 100% intentional.

I intentionally take a shit too, it doesnít make it something people would want to watch.

Itís just a terrible, basically unwatchable film filled with bad acting and bad storytelling and deserves the scorn that has been heaped on it and the fact that the studio lost a lot of money making it.

Aronofsky was fine when he was adapting other peopleís work, on his own he just sucks. I find this is true of a lot of creative people, being good at one creative thing doesnít make you good at a different creative thing.

You see it all the time in the comic book industry, where award-winning artists think that they are writers and for the most part they suck as writers. The same thing is true in Hollywood, where talented writers and/or directors are seldom good at doing things the other way around.

I never said it was a good movie.

Someone was confused about the imagery and what the movie "meant", so I provided them with additional information about the biblical allegory.

I need to see Winters Bone, she plays the kind of girl that im a sucker for but know to stay away from.

The problem with trailer park girls is they all got fat and disgusting, literally every one of them. Skinny trailer park girls are adorable, especially when they are mad.

When your out in public and you see a fat girl. Look at them in disgust, its for their own good.
