Weekend Headbanger - What are you listening to? #QuietRiot

I have been going old school with an album I got for Christmas in 1983, Quiet Riot's Metal Health.

What have you been listening to?

I've been playing my own music the last few weeks. Picked up and cleaned the 'ole guitar and I've had a blast getting back into it.

Note, not my pic, but that IS my guitar.

Nice Mocking Bird. Every time I go in the Guitar Center I almost buy a Warlock.

My friends I am playing the ENTIRE MEGADETH DISCOGRAPHY front to back while listening to Mustaine's biography on audiobook! Cool stuff! I had forgotten how freaking awesome the early Megadeth albums were. Riffs that could power whole songs say hi for 10 seconds never to be heard again. Mind blowing. I remember rocking out to So Far So Good So What... when I was ELEVEN years old.

I've mostly ignored everything after Symphony of Destruction for various reasons (I know the new stuff is not as good which didn't help) so this will be an interesting experience once I get to those.

Currently just about to start Rust in Peace, one of my faves, after finally hearing Killing is My Business... which I could never locate as a kid.

For Christmas I asked for Through The Never Blu Ray, Rust in Peace concert BluRay, and Big 4 Bulgaria concert BluRay. Hope I get them!

The only metal show I've ever been to is King Diamond. Unless you count Trans Siberian Orchestra.

I had a couple friends that did something similar but with The Beatles. They spent years getting together once a week to spend a few hours learning the songs and recording themselves playing them. I hung out with them a lot then lots of good memories. They never did much with what they recorded, they were just doing it for fun. Though they got into doing youtube videos for a couple years and eventually put their cover of Eleanor Rigby up.

This is them jamming back in 06, it's first time they'd played together in about 10 years:

Some albums where pretty meh when hey tried to be a more mainstream band (Youthanasia was a shit show).

I would say that From United Abominations and onwards they became pretty solid again, I have enyoyed them quite a lot.

Yeah, I already did a full in order discography listen of:

The Beatles
AC/DC
Led Zeppelin
King Diamond/Mercyful Fate
Black Sabbath (Ozzy albums at least, will have to revisit with a full discog later, some of the later "random singer" material has freaking AMAZING riffs)

After Megadeth I plan to do.... KISS. To prepare I actually had to buy the Sonic Boom album as its the only one I can't stream from Apple Music. It doesn't hurt that album has a greatest hits second CD and a DVD as well all for only $8. I used to have some Kiss albums on tape as a kid, namely Love Gun, Destroyer, Animalize, and Crazy Nights, same with AC/DC (and yes Metal Health of course). Also had The Eternal Idol by Black Sabbath, which I HATED as a 12 year old because I was not nearly sophisticated enough to appreciate it. Nowadays I'm like DAMN that's good stuff.

With the Beatles it was really eye opening. Lots of "oh wow I heard this song once as a child and it rocked, so THAT'S who sang it". I'm not talking about the hits, but rather the more obscure songs. And without doing this I never would have realized just how epic Led Zeppelin really was or that Houses of the Holy would end up being my favorite Zep song. (previously it had been Kashmir)

I don't know there's just something really fun about historical binge listening.

This latest Trivium album is fucking epic! They just finished a sold out US tour with Arch Enemy. Both bands are red hot right now.
