It's an interesting subject for a WWII film, as in....'we've mined out just about every other angle on WWII, how about Dunkirk?' Not a first, second, third, or even tenth thought for a WWII film, but it could be good, because the real story behind it was so important to England being able to continue to fight.

We'll see if it's any good.

Spoiler alert: the allies won WW2. For those of you who didn't know how Titanic ended.

I am sure this will be a visual tour de force but I have zero interest.

This has "Oscar bait" written all over it. Which means snooze fest for normal people. It might be a good rental but it seems very niche.

That said I hope to be proven wrong. I really like movies where people go above and beyond in incredible circumstances. I've deliberately stayed away from researching too deep into this event (besides the broad strokes) so I can see how it Nolan does with it.

One of Hitlers major miscalculations in the war, he could have ended England and pushed back any allied response by years if he played his cards right. He could have then focused all his forces on Russia instead of fighting a hopeless battle on 2 fronts.

Hitler was a corporal who managed to fool Stalin with the Molitov-Ribbentrop Pact and divide up Poland and follow up with knocking the Allies out of Europe Mainland. But he assumed the US would stay out of europe thanks to his Wolf Pack and he assumed that Japan would not aggravate the situation. So two assumptions about people he did not have a clue about, and Stalin who was according to archives still biding his time perfecting his tanks.

I was in the movie theatre and this trailer came up. Some dumb ass millenial next to me goes "What Dunkirk? This looks stupid" and I seriously face palmed.

I get that WW2 was 70+ years ago, and I guess if someone asked me about seminal battles of The War of 1812, I might not be able to rattle off all of them, but still.
