I really want to play this game, but I want a new video card first. Come on non-Founder Edition GTX1080, stop being such a bitch ass to buy retail.

I think this game has great potential, but I sure as hell don't want to be one of the beta testers waiting for the patches that finally get it there. Maybe in a year or two I'll revisit it.

Since all major release games require a day 1 patch when initially installing anyway, does "Gone Gold" really have any meaning anymore?

Also, I can't believe some guy popped up in front showing off the first pirated copy, that's just arrogant.

Gone Gold at least tells you that no further delays will occur. So the release date is the actual launch date for the game, bugs be damned.

The fear being so close to launch is not hearing a "Gone Gold" announcement, which could mean additional delays to the title.

I see a very diverse range of facial hair, and shirts.

This is the best kind of diversity.

If these guys don't turn out to be a bunch of leftist twats, I may support their game as a show of tribal solidarity.

In the name of fairness, PC games had Day One patches 16 years ago. Diablo 2, for example, got kind of blasted for having a sizable patch ready the day the game launched. This has been the reality of gaming for nearly 20 years.

"Gone Gold" simply means development has hit a point where further development of additional content is considered done. The game has been copied to the master disc and anything further will have to be patched in at a later date. It's effectively the point of no return; the game is "done", has passed certification (in the case of the consoles) and is ready to be printed and mass produced.

... and reviewed. Verrry curious how this one will fare, especially in user reviews.

No one mentions they used to literally go on a gold disc. Not sure that's the case with Blu-ray.

Good points. "Gone Gold" is basically a release milestone. Back in the day, it used to mean "the game is finished!". These days, though, it seems to mean "We give up, you can take it now, maybe we will try and fix it later."

If by "these days", you mean "the past 20 years"...then you'd be right.
This has been the reality of PC gaming for practically two decades. Consoles games were the only ones during the same period of time where "going gold" meant "the game is as done as it's ever going to be" because patching was effectively impossible.

Yep. The biggest mistake consoles made was adding RAM and allowing games to be patched. That allowed dev studios to become lax and not have to invest as much in QA, since the end users would do that for them for free. Crap, even handheld cart games get patched (3DS).

They said the game is only 6 GB and most of that is sound. I have a real feeling there just isn't going to be much content here.

To be fair Skyrim was under 6 GB. Yes I know we have higher resolutions now, but you can do a lot with 6 GBs. A lot of those Blu Ray games on the PS 3 didn't need to be as huge as they were, but BR Discs don't do random access very well, so many assets were repeated over the disc for better read/seek times. That's also why so many PS3 games require an install.
