Tomb Raider - Official Movie Trailer #2

Quote:
Lara Croft, the fiercely independent daughter of a missing adventurer, must push herself beyond her limits when she finds herself on the island where her father disappeared.

From Warner Bros. Pictures and Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Pictures, Tomb Raider is the story that will set a young and resolute Lara Croft on a path toward becoming a global hero. The film stars Oscar winner Alicia Vikander (Ex Machina, The Danish Girl) in the lead role, under the direction of Roar Uthaug (The Wave), with Oscar-winner Graham King (The Departed) producing under his GK Films banner. The filmĻs production begins on the heels of the 20th anniversary of the wildly popular videogame franchise from Square Enix, Crystal Dynamics and Eidos Montreal.

Tomb Raider also stars Dominic West (Money Monster, 300), Walton Goggins (The Hateful Eight, Django Unchained) and Daniel Wu (AMCĻs Into the Badlands).

I donít know what to think with this. Every time she jumps, it looks absurd. I feel like they are right on target with her taking lumps. Thatís very John McClain. But then they keep mixing in this superhero thing where she;s making these absurd leaps and it looks terrible.

It looks just like the game, which was largely "chick torture" not "female empowerment", like the devs claimed.

Meh...

It's not chick torture. It's a hero taking lumps which is what happens to most heroes in most stories. If they're not taking their lumps more often than not then they're not really believable.

A lot of people don’t quite get that Tomb Raider was a spiritual sequel to Prince Of Persia. The original is basically PoP in 3D. And as such, it carried over the grisly death scenes that showed what he[penned to your character if you made a mistake.

So no... it’s not a woman thing. It’s a genre thing.

Every move she makes is death defying, unrealistic, and video game-ish in nature (like "now I have to use the parachute I picked up in the camp from three levels ago to base jump to get to the next checkpoint").

I think that gets old after a while. But I like the actress and franchise enough I'll watch the movie (via movie pass) even while I grumble, just a bit, that she doesn't physically fit the proper proportions of Lara Croft. I tend to like the more realistic sizing.

Everyone bitching about the unrealistic jumps, etc.. You realize that you're talking about pretty much all modern action movies, right?

I'll probably go see this, but I don't expect anything more than a generic action movie based on a video-game character.

Your point? If it looks bad it looks bad. The fact that they do it a lot doesn't change anything. It just means most modern movies look silly.

I agree, there's just something goofy about the effects whenever she goes airborne. Put it in the same category as CGI blood effects in movies - it may be easier to film, but it just looks weird to the eye.

Honestly, was a little surprised that they'd give her the body count of the game. I mean, I jokingly refer to it as "Lara Croft: Axe Murderer" because of how easy it was to sneak up and stealth kill enemies with your climbing axe, but she outright uses it to take down a guy there.

While I'm not holding my breath for Oscar material (then again, Oscar material hasn't been fan material for a decade or more), but it could be a fun popcorn muncher.

I'm not sure she has the ability to pull off an action-oriented lead role. We shall see.

I'm wondering if, in the scene where she jumps off of the broken boat, she is supposed to be jumping for the other half ala the game and they just havn't put that in yet. It looks like she is jumping across something, rather than down off of something.

Tomb Raider, Pacific Rim, Death Wish, Ready Player One... March is quite the month for movies. I may have to look into this Movie Pass thing. Can that be used on new releases?

That's one fine-looking woman.

Nope, not spending money to see this in the theatre.

Is this casting choice a deliberate way to shame ample-chested women into conforming to a smaller chest-radius?

Should this most iconic ample-breasted character not be played by an ample-chested woman, lest it be discriminatory?

Kidding aside, the movie looks like every other action movie. The new games are pretty great though.

Warner Bros. just can't make action movies. Anything with CGI in it looks like it was done by a 2007 video game company and everything else just looks off.

Then you may as well call John McClane a Marty Stu, because nothing they showed in this trailer looked any different from any other action movie.

She hasn't had the giant balloon tits for at least a decade; this actor is right in line with the way she's been portrayed over the past few games.

It looks like any Gerard Butler flop released in the last ten years.
