Can't wait. Shadow of the Colossus is one of my favorite games of all time, so being able to play it again with a stable framerate (which wasn't even the case on the PS3) has me totally excited.

I finished Okami on the PS2, tried to get into it on the Wii and couldn't. Even though the paintbrush was a ton better on the Wii, I just couldn't replay it.

SotC and Ico I did finish again on the PS3 (I think) but, not looking forward to paying for them again, probably won't.

This is one of those games that I never got around to playing. With that said, I will pick it up for PS4 when it comes out.

I really want Sony to fail in the console space. They have two generations of exclusives I would like to see head to PC.

I never managed to get into "Shadow of the Colossus". I played it for maybe an half hour, got to the first giant and killed it for no discernible reason. Then the game said: "Well, that didn't work. Go fuck up this other guy, maybe that'll bring your wife/sister/daughter/mother/whatever back", and I quit. I watched a speedrun later. Nice monster variety and some cool designs, but everything about this game looks like work. There's not an ounce of joy or enjoyment to be had, from what I can tell. At least this version looks a bit better...

Years later, I bought "The Last Guardian" as a Christmas present for my wife. 70 euros, and it still sits there unplayed. I really should have learned my lesson, but hope never dies.

There's a story, but it begins in medias res and doesn't become clearer until closer to the end.

Basically, the girl (whose name is Mono) was sacrificed and the player character (named Wander) wants to try to bring her back to life. He takes her body to the temple - which is located in a forbidden land - you encounter at the beginning of the game and asks for aid from the entity Dormin, who is trapped in said temple. Dormin can bring the girl back to life...but he's trapped in the temple and can't do anything until the 16 colossi are destroyed.

Long story short, Dormin is an evil entity that was split into the 16 colossi and sealed away in the temple. As Wander kills more of the colossi, his physical appearance becomes more and more corrupted until he's eventually possessed by Dormin once he's released. A group of men from Wander's village shows up to save the day and reseal Dormin, at the cost of Wander's life (sorta, more or less). Essentially, the main character was going to release an evil god in order to bring his dead girlfriend back to life.

This is all presented within the game, but again...you'd have to play it to get the story. It was, however, pretty clear about the 16 colossi needing to be destroyed in order to restore Dormin right at the outset.

I am in the same boat. I am ok buying these over and over. Okami on the Wii I got the furthest ever and I enjoyed it, but something else came along and I never got to get through it. Maybe on ps4 I will finally beat it.

Yeah, I knew that back then - I was trying to use exaggeration and hyperbole for comical effect, but seem to have missed the mark. And I watched the ending in the speedrun, but didn't want to spoil it here. I (me! personally!) still think it's a crappy story that I can't relate to. It's just an excuse for the player to move through a lifeless world (more or less just a big arena) and kill and destroy and hurt everyone else, to further his own egotistic agenda. I thought "ICO" was a lot more subtle in that regard.

Apologies, I didn't mean to sound so negative*. I know many people love SotC for its atmosphere and its art style, and far be it from me to deny them that experience - especially now that the technology seems to finally have caught up with the rest of the game. I guess I was just surprised that Rommel of all people would use this particular title as an excuse to pine for a PlayStation...

*) It's just who I've become, apparently... :-(

Really, all I need to know is that a hottie is in trouble. Full stop. I am on board. I hate escort missions, but by God I was not going to let those shadows take my Yorda (ICO) away and I was not about to let some big assed creatures get in the way of my resurrecting my hottie of a girlfriend (Shadow of the Colossus).

Lol, I loved the simplicity of the story in SotC. I thought the main character didn't even knew the girl, he just didn't want her to die. I think there is something heroic about giving it all for someone you don't even know.

The simplicity of the story also makes the "feels" more real, because it is so much harder to justify what you are doing. In any other game you could find an overall reason why all the mass murder, destruction, etc is entirely justifiable, but for the most of Shadow of the Colossus your only narrative beat is that there is a girl, who can be resurrected, but only if you kill these 16 colossi that are doing no harm to the world.

You aren't stopping rampaging monsters, you aren't saving a village from destruction, you are not bringing light back to the world. You are killing beasts that have been roaming the lands for eons for no other purpose than to satiate your needs.

Beat it. Don't have to beat it again. My imagination can fill in the low-res blanks better than any HD update.

There's no one title that has me interested in a PS3/4. There are, however, enough great games that are locked down by Sony that I would consider the ecosystem.
